Long Distance Love: Lauren + Jon

long distance love shoot

Lauren + Jon had a long distance relationship being in two different cities throughout their relationship, so they really wanted to pull that aspect of their relationship into their engagement photos. I just love the tin-can phones and the sweet Long Distance Love banner! The session took place in Central Florida and it ended up raining a bit at the end, but they didn’t let that stop them. You’ll also notice their cute pup in the photos which was important for them to include since he won’t be able to be in the wedding – he has too much energy! :) Thanks so much to Shipra Panosian Photography for letting me share her work today.

Handmade Florida Wedding: Mary + Geoff

florida wedding bride and groom

Mary + Geoff’s wedding was truly a labor of love – even in their choice of photographer – Julia from Our Labor of Love! Geoff was born and raised in Oregon and when they began planning their wedding in Florida it was very important that their day really reflect who they are and incorporate as much as Oregon into it as possible. They had his parents collect rocks from the Oregon coast and they made stepping stones out of them to stand on during the ceremony. Such a sweet way of being in two places at once. :)

The wedding took place at Palm Valley Gardens in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. The venue had a giant old house with a small pond and the majority of the day was outdoors. They also did as much DIY as they cold including: making the waving flags, drink stir sticks, bunting signs, painting their favorite quotes on signs, making old windows into chalkboards, and scouring thrift stores for vases + vintage china for the place settings. All the DIY was really worth it to them since it really showed who they are as a couple. Mary + Geoff are both hippies at heart and that was truly the guiding inspiration behind their details. Congrats to the happy couple!

My favorite memory of the entire day was the ceremony. I have heard other brides say this and until I experienced it I didn’t think it would be. I spent many hours feeling so nervous about it and in the end I truly felt like it was just him and I. The crowd disappeared and the nerves dissolved as soon as it began. I couldn’t even tell you who was sitting in the front row! We exchanged vows under a giant tree with my grandfather as the officiant. We wrote the ceremony from start to finish and it was worth the effort. Every word was “us” and we wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. It was all followed by a night of southern cooking, music, cocktails and dancing.

My advice for those planning now is to forget about what you’re “supposed” to do and do things that truly move you and that you feel passionate about. These days anything goes when it comes to wedding details and it should represent the individuals getting married.

Playful Summer Ranch Wedding: Vanessa + Calvin

summer camp wedding signs

Memorial Day Weekend marks the start of summer and with the start of summer comes the summer Issue of Martha Stewart Weddings – on newsstands today! Today we are sharing a small sneak at one of the fun weddings from the issue. Captured by Chris and Sarah Rhoads, this wedding is all fun + games! Vanessa and Calvin thought of every way to get their guests in a playful mood at their weekend-long gathering at the Dawn Ranch Lodge in Guerneville, California. With witty wording, a punchy palette, and lots of interactive activities (crosswords, wordfinds, cards) it just oozes with fun. :)

Love this surprise! Vanessa + Calvin’s guests wanted to do something special to surprise them, so a friend rounded up a dozen people to “score” the first kiss. When the couple turned to face the crowd after their kiss, signs proclaiming “10” or “9.5” shot up!

In lieu of signing a guest book, partygoers circled their names in a giant word search made by the bride’s brother (also a graphic designer) and mounted on an easel. All the other fun printed elements were designed by Jack & Ginger.
