This Rainbow Rooftop Wedding in Atlanta Was Colorful “Midcentury Magic”

Julie + Brittany’s rooftop “I Do’s” overlooking the Atlanta skyline were a vibrant retro fantasy.

“We are both maximalists,” say the brides, “so everything was done BIG.”

Midcentury Magic was the theme for the celebration, and together with Smooth As Butter Weddings & Events, the couple transformed Ventanas into a decade-by-decade time machine. 1950’s roadside motel vibes were created with vintage decor. The reception was inspired by the swanky starbursts of a 1960’s dinner party. And the night culminated in an absolutely unforgettable 1970’s disco with ABBA blasting from the speakers.

We can’t get enough of all the dazzling and elevated rainbow details. Let’s take a look at Ashley White’s fabulous photos of Julie + Brittany’s big day!

How delightful are these 50’s motel inspired invitation suites by Tinlizzy Designs Co.! Tiki details? A door hanger? A motel key?! So quirky + creative! Also, very into the retro color combo of pastel blues + vivd oranges.

Before The “I Do’s”

Julie + Brittany started their wedding day together at the charming Hotel Clermont

…before zipping off to the ceremony in a vintage powder pink 1957 Ford Thunderbird from Vernalisa Productions!

A Colorful Ceremony

Florist Flaura Botanica heard “elevated rainbow” and absolutely understood the assignment. These clouds of tinted baby’s breath are magic.

Loving this arched ceremony seating setup. Don’t be afraid to opt for more creative wedding ceremony seating like Julie + Brittany did. It’s a great way to make your “I do’s” feel immersive + unique.

“We wanted to honor Julie’s Jewish heritage at the ceremony,” says the couple. “Instead of doing traditional Jewish wedding blessings, we had seven of our close friends write and read their personal blessings to us. Julie broke glass (and gender roles!) at the ceremony.”

Our Musical Choices

Processional: “This Must Be the Place” by Kishi Bashi (sung by Tea for Two)

Recessional: “Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic” by The Police

First Dance: “Can’t Help Falling In Love” by Elvis Presley (Kacey Musgraves cover)

Lapel florals and wearable flowers like Julie’s are one of our fave wedding trends to watch!

Can you even call it a 70’s-inspired wedding if you don’t have a custom newlywed disco ball?!

Julie’s star embellished hair style was created by Aura Salon while Brittany’s glamorous loose waves were the work of Salon 9 3/4, and Makeup By Carrie is responsible for both brides’ beautiful + distinct wedding day makeup looks. Love Julie’s understated neutrals and Brittany’s bold red lip!

OBSESSED with the 60’s inspired starburst nail art on Julie’s white wedding nails!

Julie’s jumpsuit and jacket were created by HKT Clothiers. Fun fact? The touches of sparkle were created with fabric from Brittany’s dress!

Brittany found her champagne sequin plunge neck gown at Magnolia Laine Bridal, and we love the shimmer that her look added to the day!

A Retro Rainbow Reception

Julie + Brittany leaned into the 50’s motel-inspired decor and used custom retro motel keys and adhesive clear mini hooks to help guests find their way to their reception table!

We love a wedding reception seating chart with escort cards that double as unique wedding favors!

This vibrant + asymmetrical midcentury wedding cake from Gingerspice Bakery looks almost too stunning to slice into!

EventWorks created a monochrome canvas for all of the fierce + colorful table decor with white tablecloths and black napkins.

Party Bound decked the reception space out with a winding banquet table setup and silvery guest seating.

Julie + Brittany created a gradient effect with different color menus, solid color floral arrangements, and strategically placed colorful taper candles.

Guests enjoyed a feast catered in house by Ventanas (and then got to much on late night pizza from Atlanta favorite Fellini’s Pizza later on 🍕)

Loving all this vibrant + festive tinsel decor! It reminds so much us of this DIY maximalist technicolor California wedding!

Jose Martinez created this unbelievably colorful wedding dessert spread.

Four words: Custom. Lego. Cake. Topper.

Custom matchbooks are such a cute memento for guests to take home with them. Love the red foil retro font on Julie + Brittany’s!

Julie’s grandma’s typewriter, a record player, some favorite albums on vinyl, and a polaroid photo station helped create the space’s immersive 50’s motel vibe.

Our Advice To Those Planning Now

Brittany: "Pay for good photography and video professionals who understand your vibe and vision! It goes by so quickly. All you will have at the end of the day are the memories that were captured."
Julie: "Don’t sweat the small stuff. No matter what happens throughout the wedding planning, on the day of, it will be magic! And even if it’s not, you’re next to the love of your life. That’s the takeaway. It goes by in a flash."

Radial Entertainment was on duty getting the 70’s disco dance party started!

Drag performer Brigitte Bidet made an appearance and absolutely brought down the house.

Our Favorite Memory From The Wedding

One of our favorite parts of the day was when we surprised all our guests with a performance by popular Atlanta-based drag queen Brigitte Bidet. After our toasts, we announced Brigitte who did an amazing performance and got our wedding guests up on the dance floor. Seeing a drag queen performance was a first for many of our out-of-town family. There was nothing like seeing an aunt from Pennsylvania toss dollar bills and get down with a drag queen.

Snag a colorful champagne coupe set or take a look through our collection of the best champagne glasses to recreate this celebratory champagne tower moment!

Congrats, Julie + Brittany!! Your maximalist Midcentury Magic wedding day was truly one for the ages. We LOVE your custom wedding jackets and wish you both all the very best!
