My Favorite Engagement Sessions of 2010

Thanks so much everyone for checking out all my favorites of 2010 posts! I hope you enjoyed them – I had a lot of fun looking through all my posts from this past year. :) I also wanted to say a big thanks to all the photographers + wedding vendors who share their work each day here on GWS – you are all what makes my job so fun + rewarding. And now for some of my favorite engagement sessions. I really love when couples take the time to make their shoot more personal by adding little details + great styling, some of my 2010 faves…

My Favorite Wedding Details of 2010

Today I’m sharing my favorite wedding details from 2010. There were SO many great ones, it was hard to narrow it down! But I somehow managed. :)  I’d love to hear which were yours…my favorite wedding details of 2010
raw cotton wedding details

We started the year off with the gorgeous wedding of Kristen + Brandon Kidd photographed by Jasmine Star. The raw cotton and rustic goodness had us all swooning! See the entire wedding here.

balloons for wedding ceremony

We still love balloons! I adored the way this couple used them in their ceremony space as photographed by W Scott Chester.

cake wedding

The Thiebaud inspired cake display by Ana’s Creative Bakery from this wedding photographed by Kate Harrison was such a unique idea!

wedding with graphic banners

So many great details from this wedding photographed by Clayton Austin – the way the bridal party look like a scene from a play for the ceremony, the giant banners with love quotes + the tables inspired Sunday Suppers.

rainy wedding

This gorgeous rainy day wedding had so many pretty, pretty moments captured by One Love Photo.

barn seating

The hay bales with ribbons were such a sweet seating for this outdoor wedding photographed by Love Me Do Photography.

wedding invitations

Super creative + personal invitations! Kelli Murray drew a cute illustration of her + her hubby for their wedding. I also love the oversized invitations designed by Carolyn Ramos for this wedding photographed by Our Labor of Love.

flowers for wedding corsages

The fun floral corsages + boutonnieres designed by Studio Choo from her wedding in a greenhouse photographed by Rikki Ward was whimsical beauty!

wedding place cards

The great attention to details in these name cards from this wedding photographed by Jeff Wallace were another fave.

colorful reception chairs

Loved the colorful reception chairs from this wedding photographed by Kamp Photography.

ceremony alterscapes

Such amazing ceremony altars. The airplant arch designed by Mai of Bunch Studio for her wedding photographed by Adrienne Gunde and the paper flowers + kites designed by Jesi Haack + photographed by Ashley Rose were both some of my favorites.

barn weddings

Gorgeous barn weddings. Whether the ceremony was in a barn like this lovely wedding photographed by Clayton Austin or outside like this pretty wedding photographed by Ben Blood, both were stunning.

outdoor wedding under the trees

And the most popular post of the year (and one of my faves) was none other than Tahni + Joseph’s Bohemian Wedding photographed by Clayton Austin. It really does have some of the most awe-inspiring photos.

I can’t wait to see what 2011 has in store! I already have some great weddings lined up for January to share with you all. :) Tomorrow will be the last of my favorites for 2010 with favorite engagement photos.

A New Year’s Eve Old Hollywood Glamourous Celebration

old school hollywood new year's eve party

We are going to take a break from our best of 2010 today to share a great New Year’s Eve party idea, but we’re back tomorrow with more faves from 2010. :) You may have already seen this gorgeous shoot featured on the Martha Stewart Wedding Blog a few months ago, but it was too gorgeous not to share again – and I think it would make for such great New Year’s Eve inspiration. Thanks so much to Cortnie from Canvas and Canopy for sharing more details into the shoot + how to incorporate these glam details into a New Year’s Eve bash. Old Hollywood glamour is a great vibe to infuse into your festivities as it evokes the glitz of a bygone era. Metallics of gold + silver with soft sages and a vintage sequined cocktail dress adorned with a simple succulent spray painted gold is the perfect way to watch the ball drop.

glamourous party

gold macarons

Invite your guests to the soiree with a luxurious stationery suite hand painted with gold, copper and silver and tied with a bow to set the stage for the rich and decadent affair to come.

illustrated wedding invitations

Greet guests with gold-rimmed crystal goblets. You should be drinking your bubbly in style when celebrating an entire year! Layer the table with lush arrangements of cream-colored flowers, gray dusty miller foliage, and muted peaches.

yellow roses and white flowers and dusty miller

Create lounges for guests to relax in with a Hollywood Regency feel. White furniture with gold bamboo accents and crisp clean linens, layered with gilded gold creates a luxe ambience. Gold trimmed fine china and sparkling champagne compliment each other perfectly! Add a touch of sparkle to the place cards by adorning them with sequined and beaded embellishments. Another glamorous seating option is to hang mini mirrors off each chair and write each guests name upon them with a metallic pen.

A spread of gold dusted desserts is the perfect way to indulge and celebrate 2010’s accomplishments. Dust Mini shortbread cookies, homemade vanilla marshmallows, macarons and cookies with edible gold to add to the festive flair.

gold popcorn

DIY: Instead of serving a large cake, let guests munch on homemade gold dusted and salted caramel corn. But even the popcorn containers need to be dressed up for New Year’s Eve, so serve your treats in a popcorn cake! The best part is that you can use the popcorn tubs that the popcorn was popped in to create it! We created ours with luxurious silk dupioni fabric and a beaded trim.

1. After popping your popcorn, set it aside in a bowl and cut off the top quarter of each bucket and discard that trimmed off bit.
2. Use a hot glue gun to attach the fabric to each bucket.
3. Once the glue has cooled, wrap a ribbon around the middle of each container + secure with adhesive.
4. Fill the large bucket with popcorn. Place the smaller container on top of it + fill it with popcorn as well.
5. Place your “cake” on a cake stand and enjoy! It’s all about the presentation.

Another fun project that you can do is create a luxe corsage for you and your girls by spray painting a succulent in a shiny metallic and simply tying it around your wrist or head with a chain.

Lastly, since this is a cocktail party, the cocktails also need a bit of dressing up. Since you are throwing a Hollywood Regency style affair, it would not be complete without the token greyhound piece. So why not serve greyhound cocktails with greyhound stirrers?! For our DIY greyhound stirrers we simply trace the outline of a greyhound, cut it out, place it onto a popcicle stick and used rhinestones for the eyes. We then placed them on a vintage beverage cart to perfectly finish off the old Hollywood feel.
