“Embracing the Unconventional:” This Maximalist, 90s-Inspired Wedding Shoot United Modern + Vintage Vibes

“Inspiration often strikes unexpectedly,” says photographer Sylvie Rosokoff. And in the case of this bold, bright, fresh-yet-nostalgic wedding shoot, wallpaper was that unexpected inspiration.

“When I discovered Janie Korn’s limited-run collection of candles inspired by designs from my favorite wallpaper company, Flat Vernacular, I knew I’d found my muse,” remembers Sylvie. “Flat Vernacular’s modern, colorful designs and Janie’s playful, surreal, and maximalist candles inspired visions of a wedding tablescape for a creative and color-loving couple.”

“I’ve longed to shoot a wedding editorial with NYC-based floral design and creative agency East Olivia,” Sylvie says, and we can totally see why. The floral + design creativity for this project are off the charts. Vintage. Modern. Maximalist. 90’s-inspired touches. The vibe is equal parts loud + lovely with unique textures, unexpected silhouettes, and nonstop color.

And real life couple Laura + Bianca make it all look SO romantic 💖

Let’s take a look!

How sweet are these heart-shaped ring boxes?!

A Fabulous Floral Print Ceremony Setup

We get why Sylvie loves Flat Vernacular and this vibrant floral wallpaper! “Perennial” in the color story “Wildflowers” was a perfect pop of print to work in with the flowy, velvety textiles of this ceremony setup.

East Olivia completely captured the spirit of the shoot with the day’s flowers. So rich + playful!

Loving this cropped blazer bridal look on Bianca! Check out this similar jacket from Revolve.

Laura looks so fab in this mauve plaid shorts suit from Frank And Oak. Shop this English Factory look for something similar!

The genius behind the shoot’s impeccable style? Laura Napoliello. Unique contemporary finds were paired perfectly with vintage pieces (like Laura’s frilly pink button down 😍), and these fierce looks are just the beginning.

Willow House kept things neutral + natural, makeup-wise to compliment all the vibrant color. And they gave us two stunning examples of short wedding hair styles! For Laura, they emphasized her gorg natural curls. For Bianca? Something chic + sleek for her platinum bob.

We ❤️ creative wedding nails!! These 3D nails are playful, kitschy perfection. “Nail artist frisky mariska used nail stickers from Deco Beauty that inspired nostalgia for her craft box as a kid,” remembers Sylvie. “Tiny seed bead flowers, rainbow jelly stickers and an explosion of Y2K goodness.”

“A centerpiece of the two sets is a portrait of each other—her inspiration was a modern-day heart locket necklace with a picture of your love, but wearing that photo on the nail instead. While holding hands, the portraits are united.”

Retro Vibes on the Roof

Is there anything more romantic than a lace wedding dress? We can’t get enough of Laura’s vintage 70’s second look.

Also, these fun + chunky wedding shoes!! Shop these pale pink platform mules or these white platform loafers to recreate the vibe.

Completely dazzled by these unique opal rings from bespoke jeweler Love Locked.

Can’t get over the way beads were worked into the tablescape!! All of the beaded reception accessories were created by Susan Alexandra.

We’ve got nail ideas for every occasion for you to explore if this shoot is giving you mani envy.

The day’s bold + creative wedding veils were the work of veil queen Madison Chamberlain, creator of the epic sequin veil we *still* dream about from this eclectic New Orleans wedding.
