A Backyard Garden Party Wedding: Whitney + Adam

bride and groom

Whitney + Adam both lived in France so they wanted to pull some inspiration for their wedding in Idaho from their love of France. They had their favorite French pastries (such as mille feuilles, fruit tarts, madelines, and macaroons), French dipped roast beef sandwiches, and gave the guests sea-salt French caramels as take home gifts. Their wedding ceremony was a private religious ceremony in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. After the ceremony, they spent some time with their lovely photographer Jaclyn Davis taking photos, then they were off to their reception at Whitney’s parents home.

They wanted the reception to feel like a French garden party and they did such a lovely job! The majority of the decorations were gathered from Whitney’s mother’s home, her grandparents basement and antique stores. The most important thing though to them was that it was a celebration! Whitney’s parents spent months preparing their backyard: gardening, pruning and creating a dance floor in the middle of the yard, complete with a sky ceiling of lights. Congrats to Whitney + Adam on your gorgeous wedding and beautiful life together!

Our wedding day was absolutely perfect! The night before our wedding, we wrote each other letters and read them together the next morning, right before the ceremony. This was so special and definitely helped calm any of our nerves and reminded us why we were getting married in the first place. For those planning weddings, my advice is to not stress about every little detail. Try and delegate to people in your family or friends that are willing to help. My mother was amazing during the whole planning process and took the reins when I was burnt out. You will be stressed no matter what during the planning phase, but try to never lose focus on why you are getting married. Remember that your wedding is only one day of your marriage and you should try and make you and the groom as comfortable and happy as you can be.

A Festival Inspired Backyard Wedding: Visra + Chris

giant pink tent, wedding

Visra + Chris live on an amazingly beautiful property in Woodside, CA and wanted to share their love of their home and property with all their family and friends on their wedding day. These are two easy going people with fast paced jobs – he’s the VP of a little site called Facebook and she’s a filmmaker that travels around the world. They wanted a mellow burning man/concert type of celebration where guests camped on the property for 3 days which I completely love! ”Tent city” was made up of numerous tents on the property and guests were welcomed to camp out for the weekend – Visra + Chris even had a special wedding night tent (the gorgeous pink tent above made of pink fabric + wood overlooking a mountain range where they put their bed and spent their wedding night “camping”!). Outdoor sinks with antique mirrors were set up along side the outdoor showers. Vintage rentals were also brought in to complete the homey and woodsy feel.

The most amazing part of the day had to be the triangular dining table. Visra + Chris spent 6 months with artist Drew Bennett designing + building the dining table for their 200+ guests. The idea was to have all the pieces connected so that their family and friends could sit down and share the dinner at one table. Their wedding also had fresh produce + oysters that were brought in for munching, mixologist’s mixed top notch cocktails, and 2 bands and DJ kept the party going into the wee hours of the morning. Visra + Chris truly had the wedding at home that they dreamed of…unlike any other. Big thanks to Jenny Kim Photo for the gorgeous photos + to the ladies of Sitting In A Tree for the wedding planning + design.

Instead of registering, Visra + Chris asked guests to bring an unwrapped book for their ever expanding collection. Guests shelved the books on a rustic bookshelf.

A Wedding in Africa: Sarah + Andre

A Wedding in Africa: Sarah + Andre

Today we have a wedding all the way from Botswana, Africa to share! I just love that couples all over the world are reading Green Wedding Shoes to find inspiration and are willing to share their story. :) Both Sarah + Andre love being outdoors and nature is a big inspiration to them, so it wasn’t a hard decision to get married outdoors. Sarah’s father’s home (where she grew up) was the perfect location and having her wedding in such a personal location made it extra special. It was also really important to them that their day was about them and their friends + family. Thanks so much to Kyle Hale who was the photographer + traveled all the way from Atlanta to Botswana to photograph their day!

WOW. Can’t believe that is her father’s backyard! So lucky…

Most memorable moment of your wedding day? Stepping out the car and seeing that all my ideas had been fully appreciated by family and friends who had put it all together. Of course walking down the aisle with my father to Andre. My father always makes me laugh and I knew that there would be no tears only laughter. My jaw was so sore the next day from smiling so much. Our ceremony was truly special, especially considering one of my parent’s closest friends, Rita was the officiant.

What song did you walk down the aisle to? I walked down to Fireflies by Owl City (when Andre and I first met, this song had just been released and wherever I went it felt like it was always playing). We exited to ‘All I want is you’, by Barry Louis Polisar.

Any advice for those planning now? Be true to you. Enjoy it. Step back occasionally and digest it all. Don’t forget why you are doing it. Don’t lose sight of ‘us.’ And lastly but most importantly let it all go when the day comes and enjoy it because it goes so quickly!

We also want to thank our friends and family who really blew us away with their willingness to help and be a part of it all! And thank you to Kyle Hale who has really touched me with his creative vision of our day, and his kind words!

Congrats to Sarah + Andre!
