Wedded Bliss Meets Modern Art! This Colorful Backyard Wedding Was the Experience of a Lifetime

Like so many of the best love stories, Danielle and John’s began with the two of them being “just friends”. But alas, true love always finds a way! After the two decided to act on their feelings for one another, it was time for their first date. They made their way over to the Baltimore Museum of Art, and the rest was history.

When it came to planning their dream wedding, it was quickly decided that the theme would be centered around paying homage to the day that started their romantic relationship. With the help of Lemon & Lime Event Design, the couple got to work on executing the art gallery concept, right in the bride’s parent’s backyard. Every detail was simply immaculate! Between the stunning colorful florals by Sweet Root Village and flawless photography by Lisa Ziesing for Abby Jiu Photography, this wedding was one to be savored.

Color and Joy

Are you LOVING this color palette as much as we are?! Danielle got inspiration for the wedding’s color scheme from an unlikely place…a nail polish collection! Danielle was heavily inspired by OPI’s Mexico City Collection that released in 2020, the same year the couple got engaged.

The gals got ready with a classic cocktail to calm the nerves: strawberries and champagne!

Our Musical Choices

Processional: Trumpet Voluntary in D Major by Jeremiah Clarke

Recessional: Ode to Joy by Ludwig van Beethoven

First Dance: Yellow by Coldplay

See this gorgeous green tent? There were actually three tents used for Danielle and John’s wedding. The first tent included luxuries such as a Mad Men-inspired bar, sleek and sexy lighting, and a raw bar. Iconic, indeed.

A Layered Reception

The elegant seating chart featured lyrics from the couple’s first dance song, “Yellow” by Coldplay.

The inspiration for the wedding was originally based on my love for color and florals. My sister helped me expand on that by suggesting that I base my color palette off of the OPI Mexico City collection. I thought that was genius and would allow us to really use whatever colors we wanted. John and I are also inspired by art and design, so we wanted that to be showcased through structural elements and florals. We truly felt that our wedding was a direct reflection of who we are as a couple through the final design.

Our Favorite Memory From The Wedding

The best memory was walking into the reception with John for the first time. I immediately was overcome with emotion at how beautiful everything turned out. We were able to have a moment together with my parents and our wedding planners. I could not get over the amount of hard work and dedication our wedding planners and vendors put into making our day so beautiful.

Danielle’s bouquet was something out of a dream! Not only do we want these flowers as a wedding bouquet, we want them in our home.

We can’t help but love how creative these cocktails are. After all, fluffy corgis are the cutest! If you’re looking for even more creative wedding cocktail ideas, we’ve got your back.

Did we mention we’ve transitioned over to tent #2? Now, it’s all about the art gallery vibes! In addition to the insanely creative installation on the ceiling, the white minimalistic concept with pops of color screams modern art.

A gallery-inspired wedding wouldn’t be complete without, well…a gallery! One of the tent’s walls was adorned with a gallery of precious family photos for guests to admire.

Guests were treated to a four-course feast! Opting for seasonal dishes, like the butternut squash bisque appetizer, always help set the mood and offer your guests a little insight into the attention to detail used in your wedding planning process.

And for dessert, a cake to match the artwork! Complete with corgi toppers, of course.

Our Advice To Those Planning Now

I think hiring a full-time wedding planner is the best decision someone can make when planning a wedding. Beyond having their design expertise, they have great relationships with amazing vendors. Having them keep you on schedule, helping facilitate relationships with vendors, and having them uphold the contracts with the vendors is an absolute weight off of a bride and groom’s shoulders. John and I are so grateful for our wedding planners Lemon and Lime Event Design, along with all of our creative and talented vendors!
