This Sentimental Backyard Wedding in Georgia Featured Two Super Cool Vintage Cars

For Kendyl + Smith, home is where the heart is, wedding-wise!

“I didn’t plan on getting married at my childhood home,” says bride Kendyl. “But after working through some logistics, it only made sense to have it there. Looking back, I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way! My parents always taught me ‘Dream it, do it!’ so they were so down to transform their home into the perfect venue.”

Kendyl and Smith worked alongside Kendyl’s parents to prepare the property in Dallas, Georgia where Kendyl grew up for the big day. Kendyl’s dad built a platform in the front yard for the ceremony, and Kendyl’s mom painted it white. They groomed part of their horse pasture for the reception. The vintage red Mustang Kendyl’s dad restored for her in high school played a central role. DIY elements (like old chandeliers Kendyl and her mom repurposed together) were threaded through the decor. “It was actually great family bonding,” Kendyl says.

The result of all of this homegrown teamwork was a vintage-inspired wedding day Kendyl + Smith had dreamed up, full to the brim with meaningful touches. And Brooke Miller Photography was there to capture it all!

The day’s florals were a mix of DIY endeavors and flowers supplied by Atlanta’s Finest Catering. We cannot get enough of the dangling orchid details worked into Kendyl’s monochrome white bouquet.

Kendyl + Smith’s dog—ring bearer, of course—came bounding down the aisle in exchange for a treat!

Our Favorite Memory From The Wedding
From Kendyl: "Since the wedding was at my parents’ house, they were both running around all morning making sure everything was perfect. As it got closer to the ceremony, my mom was running around in her crocs in full hair and makeup with her dress on. And my dad was running around in a Free Britney tshirt! Also, my mother-in-law, Jeni, has a ring that her mother gave her when she turned 50. The ring was given to her mother when Jeni was born. And on our special day, Jeni completed my something borrowed and blue and I wore the beautiful sapphire ring. It was so special to all of us to be connected like that as I became a part of their family."

Kendyl + Smith met and fell in love in college and could tell immediately that they were meant for each other. “There wasn’t a day I had to wonder if he was the one,” says Kendyl. These two are so in love, and it’s crystal clear in these gorgeous documentary-style portraits.

Our Advice To Those Planning Now
Take things one day at a time and give yourself 1 wedding task per week. Don’t buy every white clothing item you see! Borrow and rent things if you can, or buy things you know you’ll wear again. And don’t ever be afraid to ask for advice or help!
