This Vintage-Inspired Wedding In A Northern California Meadow Had A Punk Rock Edge

The artistic vibes are strong with newlywed couple Annie + Luke. Luke is a drummer in several different punk bands. Annie is a jewelry designer and, since finding a calling while creating many elements of her own wedding day, a wedding event designer and florist now, too! (Check out her Sonoma County-based event & floral design company, Two Darlings Creative.)

The two live on a gorgeous 3-acre farm property in Northern California that once belonged to Annie’s grandparents. “Without a doubt, we knew we wanted to get married on our property, honoring the nature and wildlife that surrounds us,” the couple says. So, with a rustic, ethereal, outdoor vision, Annie took on the roles of planner, event designer, AND florist for their big day and set out to DIY almost every detail of the ceremony and reception.

Mother Nature must have known Annie + Luke were making her a big part of their celebration because the weather was beautiful. Photographer Phil Chester was there to catch every delicate, thoughtful detail of this sunny wedding day!

Annie went for a sheer-bodice, plunge-neck tulle and lace gown from Willowby by Watters. We are so in love with the dreamy, romantic, a-line silhouette. And those delicate beaded lace earrings that bride Annie (you may know her as Annie M. Jewelry) designed HERSELF are perfection with the lace details of her dress.

A first look with your bridesmaids always leads to the sweetest photos.

“My intention was to keep the ceremony space simple,” says Annie, “with rustic benches, muted bohemian rugs, and a stunning old window frame that we created into an arch-like backdrop.”

The Reception

“My favorite lounge area was the antique brass bed that we set up under our oak tree,” says Annie. “We covered the bed in layers of lace and added romantic florals. I wanted this to feel ethereal and magical, and I think we achieved just that! The bed acted as a lounge and photo area for our guests during cocktail hour, while we were taking our photos as newlyweds!”

“We had a year and a half to plan, and in that time we collected what seemed like a million treasures,” says Annie of their whimsical, DIY, cottage core reception. “I love the mismatched aesthetic and knew I wanted our tables to look like an elegant vintage dream. We painted 60 worn-out chairs in pretty pastel shades and re-upholstered cushions with fabric from Luke’s Grandma.”

I created floral sage bundles with dried roses and lavender for our favors. We hand-wrapped them with velvet ribbon and attached name tags so everyone could find their seat. These created such a lovely finishing touch to our tables, and ended up being one of our most cherished details of the day!

The shabby-chic vintage-dresser-turned-bar was another favorite element. Thrifting and repurposing so many parts of the day is great way to keep the environmental impact of your wedding low. Check out some other ideas for planning an eco-friendly wedding.

Our Advice To Those Planning Now

Work together and prioritize what truly inspires you!

A final thought from the bride: “It is the most surreal and beautiful feeling to be standing across from the love of your life, surrounded by all your friends and family, saying I do – and then to follow that with dancing, festivities, and celebration, it’s truly unlike anything else.”
