Modern Art Meets Indian Tradition In This Beautiful British Columbia Wedding

Erin + Manny are from two different cities in Canada that are about two and a half hours apart. When they fell for each other, they made an adventure of meeting in the middle in the charming town of Hope, British Columbia, halfway between them. So it only made sense that when the time came to pop the question, they got engaged in Hope.

Their resulting multi-event wedding was a traditional-meets-modern dream, and we can’t wait to give you a peek at these photos from Amrit Photography with additional photography by Sub Rosa Creative.

Together with event planners + designers from Lux Affairs, Erin + Manny planned several separate wedding events to embrace the many different aspects of their relationship.

First, there was a civil ceremony with just the bride + groom’s immediate families. The couple found a beautiful spot in the mountains and exchanged vows in an intimate + personal way. Think elopement with stunning scenery vibes.

After that, At the request of their parents, the couple made it official with a traditional Indian wedding. Erin + Manny gathered their friends + family at the same Sikh temple where Erin’s parents had their own traditional wedding ceremony, and the whole thing was a vibrant orange fantasy.

Then came the modern wedding reception full of bold color + contemporary art. 

So many events. So many breathtaking looks + decor choices. So much tradition. So much personality. And so, so much to love.

Traditional Indian “I Do’s”

We are absolutely dazzled by Erin’s vibrant tangerine lehenga from Bobo Calcutta, chosen to match husband Manny’s turban and stole.

How breathtaking is the beading + embellishment on Erin’s bridal purse?!

All of Erin’s gold + pearl ceremony jewelry came from Kalyan Jewellers.

Denise Thuy Dinh went all-out glamour with Erin’s bridal updo and wedding makeup.

Manny’s delicately embellished traditional Indian groom attire came from Bhatia Fashions.

A Stunning Sikh Ceremony

Turban King created the carefully wrapped orange masterpiece that Manny wore.

“For our traditional wedding,” Erin says, “I love how we got married at the same temple as my parents.”

Erin’s solitaire round cut engagement ring looked stunning with her bridal mehndi.

“In a traditional Sikh wedding, or Anand Karaj, modern songs are not typically included during the religious aspects,” says the couple of their approach to ceremony music. “Instead, the focus is on kirtan (devotional hymns) from the Sikh holy scripture, the Guru Granth Sahib Ji.”

A Romantic Moment Alone

Our Advice
Be true to yourselves. If there are certain things you don't care to have to wear or have, just don't do it just because everyone does.

Also - things will always go wrong. The moment you truly realize that everyone in that room is there for you, you will have the best time. And be present. Take moments to have those special conversations. Give your gratitude.

An Artsy, Modern Reception

A reception look this effortlessly cool definitely requres a pair of chic men’s sunglasses like Manny’s.

“We had four main wedding events: civil ceremony, pre-wedding, traditional wedding, and reception, and I made sure all four looks were different and reflected different sides of my personality,” says Erin of her approach to bridal style.

“Our love all started with the love of Art,” the couple recalls. “We wanted to make sure our reception reflected that.”

The reception’s remarkable original artwork was created by dontdoze.

Q: What’s better than a wedding cocktail?

A: A wedding cocktail with a disco ball drink stirrer, of course! 🪩

Sip Mixology was on hand at the reception creating one of a kind cocktails for Erin + Manny’s guests.

This gorgeous green lighting came courtesy of Sight + Sound, and Erin + Manny further personalized their reception with a vinyl dance floor by Zabar Studio.

Music-wise, whole celebration came to life with tunes from decibel featuring DJ Hark and DJ Impact.

This delightful tableful of wedding snacks made sure Erin + Manny’s guests had plenty to nibble on.

“For our guestbook,” the couple remembers, “we had a large canvas for all of our guests to paint.”

For their first dance Erin + Manny went with “Is This Love” by Allen Stone. “It’s a beautiful cover of our favorite Bob Marley song,” the couple says, “and it holds special meaning for us.”

Our Favorite Memory
In all honesty - every event we had, we had the best time. We danced so much and ate so much.
