Inspiration Board #43: Midnight in Paris

It’s become tradition here at GWS to share fun wedding ideas from movies the week before the Oscars which I totally love since movies + weddings are two of my favorite things! I love how it shows that inspiration can really come from anything – including the movies you and your sweetie love to watch! :) So, in honor of the Academy Awards this Sunday, we have lots of fun wedding inspiration to share each afternoon this week based off the 2012 Oscar nominated films – as well as some fun ideas from films nominated in the past…

Today it’s all about one of my favorite movies from last year – Midnight in Paris! I know I’ve shared my love of this film with you lovelies already as it was a big influence in our recent trip to Paris. :) A large part of the movie takes place in Paris in the 1920’s and there aren’t many more fashionable eras of history to pull inspiration from in my mind. With fashionable vintage dresses, art deco inspired details and beautiful handcrafted hairpieces you just can’t go wrong. With nods to the movie, I incorporated a vintage book to hold the rings from Gil’s loves of old books – and he was writing his novel throughout the movie. I imagine music from Cole Porter would be heard throughout the reception which would begin at midnight of course! So many fabulous ideas to pull wedding ideas from, right?!

Are there any movies you’d love to see me create an inspiration board for? It can be a new movie or an older movie. I’d love to hear your requests in the comments and I’ll pick my favorite request and turn it into an inspiration board to share on GWS next month!

For your reference, here are some of my past movie wedding inspiration boards:

Water for Elephants, I Am Love, Black Swan, Big Fish, Alice in Wonderland, Up, (500) Days of Summer, Amelie, Twilight

  1. I have to see this film, I love this style <3

  2. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind!!

  3. This look and styling would make a stunning wedding theme!

  4. The Artist or A Single Man by Tom Ford would be an aesthetically pleasing board!

  5. Any & all Hitchcock films, but especially those with Grace Kelly. “Rear Window” would be stunning & incorporating Grace Kelly’s fashion would look divinely on the bridal party + bride!

  6. The Notebook

  7. Loved Midnight In Paris! Also love the idea above about an Alfred Hitchcock inspiration board. I know it’s not a movie… but what about an inspiration board drawn from Downton Abbey. Uggg… I’m obsessed.

  8. I’d love to see an inspiration board for Tristan and Isolde!

  9. oohhhh this dress is just stunning :X looveee

  10. Love the Wizard of Oz and Snow White!

  11. Gorgeous! You always see vintage inspired women but rarely men. Thanks for sharing!

  12. Oh yes, I would love to see a Downton Abbey inspiration board too – I attempted one but I think it was more Victorian in the end… although I did find a swoonsome Givenchy Couture gown!
It goes without saying I can’t wait to see the new Great Gatsby film, it is going to be epicly good!

  13. YES to Downtown Abbey! It is divine and I keep thinking about a Downton themed wedding….

Breaking Dawn would be a fun current one. One of my favorite movies with the most amazing visuals would have to be Frida, and also Memoirs of a Geisha.

  14. Someone said Downton Abbey and hit it right on the head! Also, I know these are anime, but how about Howl’s Moving Castle or Spirited Away? Same director, both absolutely magical :)

  15. I love this movie! What a great board!

  16. The Fall has the most amazing colors and cinematography I have ever seen. It would make a beautiful wedding!

  17. I want to see a board inspired by Across the Universe!

  18. Ok, I know it sounds cliche but…Avatar.

  19. I always thought a wedding from the movie, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, would be awesome. Since its a perfect blend of timeless old world meets contemporary edge and her style is very simple, practical with an edge and doesn’t prefer dresses. It may sound silly, but I always wondered what overall style/decor she would use.

  1. […] Midnight in Paris. Up for an Oscar this Year. Beautiful, romantic, and literary. It’s basically the perfect movie for an English literature obsessed nut like me. And it also makes for some GORGEOUS wedding inspiration. […]
