Wedding Inspiration from the Movies: Amélie

Thanks so much for all your wonderful movie suggestions this week! I had such a fun time reading through all your ideas. And the good news is since these posts have been so popular, I’m going to make this a monthly feature!

Today, though I’m sharing a much requested and one of my all-time favorite movies, Amélie. Amélie is a whimsical French film about a shy waitress, played by the beautiful Audrey Tautou, who decides to change the lives of those around her for the better – and ends up falling in love. It takes place in Montmartre, France + was nominated for 5 Academy Awards in 2001 including Best Art Direction.

One of my most favorite things about the movie is the use of color. Lots of bright reds, greens, and blues. I think that would make a great color palette. Amelie loved the simple things in life, such as cracking crème brûlée with a teaspoon and skipping stones across St. Martin’s Canal. I think these would be so fun to incorporate into your day: mini heart shaped crème brûlée for dessert, stones covered in lace and red fabric as ceremony decor. A bright red wedding dress for a wedding outdoors with lots of greenery. Lots of fun, whimsical elements throughout the day.

The reception would take place by a carousal. Love letters the bride + groom wrote to each other would hang from colorful clothespins. And of course a photo booth to capture all your guests and create your very own photo book from the day. Amelie finds an an old metal box of childhood memorabilia hidden by a boy who lived in her apartment decades earlier. It would be so fun to create your own time capsule from the wedding day and hide for someone else to find years later. The bride and groom leave for their honeymoon on a motorbike. :)
