This Wonderfully Wild Wedding in Tulum Was an Earthy, Modern Masterpiece

That’s what planner Diana of Diana Romo Weddings says when reflecting on Joss + Jesse’s moody, modern destination celebration in the lush + biodiverse jungles of Tulum.

“It’s for the romantics who love a little edge,” she continues, “the dreamers who don’t follow trends but set them. It’s a masterclass in making a destination wedding feel deeply personal, effortlessly cool, and, above all, unapologetically you.”

Joss is a geologist. Jesse is a software sales executive. And the two were friends for five years before they fell in love. But on a trip to Peru together, everything changed. “Exploring together deepened our bond,” the couple remembers, “and from that moment on, we became partners in every sense—traveling the world not only for work, but to adventure together and go diving around the world.” 

“Our wedding was designed to reflect our love of nature, our personal styles, and the moody beauty of the jungle,” Joss + Jesse say of their chic I do’s at Wild Tulum. “With the creative support of our incredible planners, we crafted a multi-sensory experience grounded in organic elements. Think lush greenery, textured rock, mineral crystals, sleek surfaces, ambient smoke, and linear lighting—all layered together to create an immersive environment.”

A Private Moment Together

Our Favorite Memory
One of the most special parts of the day was our private vow reading during the first look. We met in a quiet garden to share our words with just each other. It was a peaceful, intimate moment that allowed us to fully connect before the whirlwind of the ceremony. As someone who’s quite shy, it was important for Joycelyn to have a space where emotions could be expressed freely. It was tender, grounding, and unforgettable.

“Finding a lightweight, breathable green suit was surprisingly challenging,” says groom Jesse of his journey to this gorgeous green wedding suit, “but the final result—a custom-made look from Empire Customs in Toronto—was worth every bit of the effort.”

There are lots of reasons why we love a first look moment. Connecting with each other and calming the pre-ceremony jitters together? What could be better?

A Ceremony Beneath the Palm Trees

“We wanted to be deeply intentional about honouring the Mayan culture in a respectful and sustainable way by having Sahumadoras cleanse and bless our guests as they entered the ceremony space,” Joss + Jesse share.

That ceremony backdrop! A literal explosion of dense + dreamy jungle greenery. Such a chic juxtaposition to the luxe + geometric ceremony stools. What a unique ceremony seating setup!

Woven hand fans made for excellent wedding favors that helped guests to beat the Caribbean heat.

“After falling in love with the Ivone dress from Muse by Berta online (and trying on countless others), I flew to New York City at Berta NYC to try it on—and it was the one,” Joss remembers of finding her way to this glorious tulle + floral appliqué wedding dress.

We truly cannot get over all of the dress’s stunningly sheer details. The illusion of the appliqué work on the neckline! The see-through layers of the flowing skirt! So sexy + feminine!

A Moody, Earthy Reception

Venue Wild Tulum catered the evening’s feast, as well.

A destination wedding in Mexico definitely calls for a margarita with a spicy rim as a signature cocktail.

This reception seating chart was radiant, minimalist dreams. The linear lighting created such a gorgeous contemporary glow. EVT Technology did so many amazing things with lighting throughout the event.

Swirling theatrical haze for effect?! Now that’s immersive event planning.

 “As a geologist, I added personal touches with a curated selection of vibrant minerals and crystals,” the bride shares. “The scent of damp moss and burning copal kept us grounded in the moment and connected to the natural world.”

“Our tablescapes featured lush moss and minimal floral stems,” Joss says, “for a natural, earthy feel.”

Our Advice
Don’t get caught up in the small details. Let yourself be surprised—it makes the day even more magical. Take the time to meet with a few wedding planners and choose someone who really gets you. Trust them; that investment is worth its weight in gold. Most of all, keep things in perspective. Planning should be joyful, not stressful. We walked away not only with the wedding of our dreams, but with lifelong friends.
