There’s no getting around it: dating on the apps has been a fixture of modern love for more than a decade, and it’s definitely here to stay. SO many of the love stories we cover here at GWS begin on Hinge or Bumble or – in the case of Syd + Sarah – Tinder 🔥. And when these two lovebirds swiped right, it was the start of something beautiful that led them to this colorful celebration.
“Thank god for that dumb app,” the happy couple says. “We went out for sushi on our first date and have been together ever since!”
Their downtown Minneapolis wedding at Watson Block was a groovy + vibrant explosion of joy. And Victoria Meersman was there to help pull it all together. The inspiration? “Bright colors in the theme of the lesbian flag [orange, pink, and white🩷🧡🤍] and disco balls everywhere!”
We’d be burying the lead if we didn’t take a moment to talk about Sarah + Syd’s wedding day style. The blush pink tulle wedding gown that Syd wore is a total dream. And Sarah’s sheer floral wedding suit? Both looks were bold, nontraditional, perfection.

Our Favorite Memory
The most memorable part of our day absolutely has to be our drag show at dinner! It was so wonderful watching all the people in our lives smile and have a good time while watching our incredible performers. I felt like it really brought everyone together to enjoy something as a family, despite many of them being strangers to one another.
Erin from Instant Request turned up the tunes so these amazing brides could dance the night away with their friends + fam.
Our Advice
Give yourself time and patience. It is a lot of work but it all is worth it in the end. Enjoy the planning stage and looking at all your options. Brainstorm ideas and mood boards. Even bad ideas can help you find what will make your day perfect. Add things that are special to you and your relationship. Don't be afraid to scrap your whole plan and start again! I planned about four weddings in various cities and states across the country before we found our fit. I would do it all again!
