This Free-Spirited Vineyard Wedding in Portugal Broke Tradition in the Best Way

The best weddings are the ones that feel like you. From your unique style to your funky quirks, it’s the personal touches that make your celebration all your own. And no one knows that better than Danya and Andrew!

When planning their romantic wedding at a lush vineyard in Portugal’s Douro Valley, this couple wasn’t afraid to break tradition. Whether it was saying “no” to wedding rings or rocking one-of-a-kind attire (hint: there’s a gorgeous pink wedding dress!), every detail was a reflection of who they are as a couple.

So if you’re dreaming of a wedding that’s just as free-spirited and laid-back as your relationship, keep scrolling for all the inspo from Dayna and Andrew’s big day.

Plus, we’re also sharing a few insider details from the couple’s photographer, Krystallenia Batziou of KrystaPhotos. Let’s dive in!

An Unconventional Ceremony in Portugal

We had to start with a close-up of this gorgeous pink wedding dress! When we say we love unique wedding attire, THIS is what we mean.

“Danya rocked a Chotronette dress, a beautiful peach-colored gown dressed with glass/mirror pieces on the corset — a bold look that’s so out of the box, but one that reflects her personality and spirit,” says photographer Krystallenia Batziou.

So gorgeous styled with these abstract gold wedding earrings to highlight the gold details on her gown!

We’re also loving this dapper groom suit from Antonio Antonius. “Andrew wanted something classy but also with a bit of Portuguese flair, so he went to a local shop and had them help outfit him,” shares Krystallenia.

“Danya and Andrew moved to Portugal from the US a few years ago, and they first got in touch with me for their maternity photoshoot when Danya was pregnant with their baby Alba,” says Krystallenia. When it came time for their wedding, they knew exactly who to call!

Instead of returning to the States for their wedding, the couple decided to tie the knot in their new home of Portugal, at the jaw-dropping vineyard of Monverde Hotel.

A moment for Danya’s gorgeous bridal cape!

The ceremony was also filled with a few unique details and personal touches, like these romantic handmade necklaces.

“Instead of the traditional wedding ring exchange, they decided to exchange custom-made necklaces with each other’s birthstones during their symbolic ceremony.”

“Their wedding day at the vineyards was based on that whole experience of slow living that so much reflects the Portuguese culture of embracing your surroundings and enjoying the good things in life,” says Krystallenia.

Our Advice

Focus on the things that bring you joy! You won’t remember the details that you don’t truly care about. And neither will your guests, they’ll just remember how happy you were!

We can’t stop, won’t stop swooning over this gorgeous gown!

Danya knew she wanted something super unique, so she was on a hunt for something with some magic. As she was looking for something ethereal, she came across Chotronette and fell in love!

We also love how Danya kept her glam simple to let that statement dress shine. From the natural wedding makeup to the personalized accessories, her look is equal parts timeless and whimsical.

A Twinkling Reception Under the Stars

Introducing the newlyweds! Andrew and Danya made their grand entrance as Mr. and Mrs. for their romantic outdoor reception in the vineyards, complete with a stunning outfit change. (Peep those crystal-embellished wedding heels!)

After the ceremony, a circus performance by Andrew’s brother and his partner provided a wonderful entertainment surprise for the day.

So fun! We’re suckers for unique wedding entertainment (it’s one of our top wedding trends for 2025!), and a circus performance definitely stands out from the crowd.

Then it was time to head to the fairy lights dinner in the heart of the vineyard. “Everything was designed to match the beautiful vineyard surroundings and the peace of the location,” shares Krystallenia.

One word: WOW.

Proof that fairy lights make everything more magical!

Monverde Hotel’s catering team carefully crafted the dinner menu to include the local Portuguese cuisine. From a traditional fish course to veal fillet cooked in red wine, the food was as much of a highlight as the unique venue.

And yes, the locally produced wine was flowing!

Dayna and Andrew’s final advice for couples? “Enjoy your friends and family and don’t worry about the rest.”

Congratulations to the happy couple on their gorgeous Portugal wedding, and shout out to the creative team for creating such an unforgettable celebration! We wish you the best from all of us here at GWS. ✨
