Cupid-Approved: A Creative Valentine’s Day Themed Wedding In Toronto

Love is in the air. Cupid is just around the corner. 💘 And we can’t help but get in the Valentine’s Day spirit by giving you a peek inside Brenna + Robyn’s romantic Valentine-inspired wedding day.

These two lovebirds started off their love story with a first date at a Toronto dive bar. From there they built a life together, and, when wedding planning began, they knew they wanted to break the mold.

“We wanted our wedding to stand out and be something that people haven’t been to before,” says the couple. That’s how the retro vibes + subtle disco flair of this Valentine’s Day-themed wedding’s design vision were born. At the end of the day, weddings are a tribute to your unique romance, right? And we can’t think of anything more romantic than Valentine’s Day!

“Robyn and I have always loved retro themes and bold colours,” Brenna says of their celebration’s red, pink, white, and orange color world. “We are absolutely obsessed with colour, especially vintage colours. And we really wanted to bring our personality to life through our wedding, so we decided to get married at Junto Studio, a vintage photo studio in Toronto.” 

There was a sequin floral veil. There was a gold brocade wedding suit. The pink + red flowers looked like they jumped right off of a vintage Valentine. Oh, and! There was a tattoo artist at the reception to provide guests with some fresh ink if they so chose.

“We wanted to stand out, being a queer couple and being lovers of colour,” Brenna + Robyn say. “We didn’t want to go the traditional route.”

We love that at the heart of Brenna + Robyn’s vision was a feeling of authenticity, and Marie Scholz captured that so beautifully in these wonderful wedding photos.

“I wanted a simple gown that hugged my curves,” says bride Brenna of how she found her way to this off the shoulder stunner from Lis Simon. Luckily she had an inside track to finding exactly what she was looking for: “I work in the bridal industry part time, and I work at a curvy and plus size shop called More 2 Love Bridal in Toronto. And I was able to find a beautiful and simple gown that made me feel beautiful!”

“Robyn is non-binary and wanted something unique and that would stand out and match their personality for the day!” says Brenna.

“They struggled a bit to find what they wanted but we came across an amazing wedding suit by Daughters of Simone that was sold by my friend Kaitlyn who owns Silk Row Bridal,” Brenna remembers, “and as soon as Robyn tried it on, they knew they loved it and needed it!”

Who needs a traditional boutonnière when you’ve got a funky floral pocket square!

The floral creations that Stems + Root contributed to the celebration really brought the rosy + romantic Valentine’s Day vision to life.

The Wedding Party

We are so charmed by the soft colors and delicate floral prints of these bridesmaid dresses from Park & Fifth!

Note to self: floral bridesmaid dresses pair so beautifully with earthy neutral wedding party suits. Brenna + Robyn’s wedding party color palette is proof.

Oh, and how stunning does everybody look! The hair stylists of Velve and makeup artists of Anya K Beauty truly nailed it.

The Ceremony

The Valentine’s Day colors of the ceremony florals pop so brilliantly against the clean whites and neutrals of this ceremony space!

“I wanted my veil to be the showstopper,” Brenna says, “and I found an amazing creator named Madison Chamberlain on Instagram and immediately knew I needed a wedding veil from her! Everyone was FLOORED when they saw it. It was definitely a MOMENT.”

Our Advice
Make sure to focus on you and your partner! It was so important to us that we did what WE wanted. We wanted our day to be authentically us and our guests all walked away saying "that was the most fun I've ever had at a wedding and it matched you both so well" which was such a compliment. Don't fall into peer pressure and don't fall into the norms. Do what YOU want! You won't regret it.

The Reception

Nayos brought the rosy neo-retro romance to the tablescape with details like those twisty taper candles, the minimalist blush dinnerware, and those embossed glass goblets.

Ink For Everybody!

Our Favorite Memory
Definitely our tattoo artist! We hired our good friend who does a lot of our tattoos and surprised everyone with tattoos! They were fully paid for by us and our guests were able to pick from a flash sheet and get a tattoo. Majority of our guests did this and were so surprised when they found out she was there! It was a huge hit.

Tattoo artist Jesse of Lazy Daisy Tattoos was hard at work at the reception creating the day’s unforgettable permanent wedding favors.

This gothic desert wedding + this funky ranch wedding also featured a tattoo artist at their receptions! Such a edgy + brilliant way to mark the occasion of your marriage for the people you love best.
