A Whimsical Wedding Under the Oak Trees in Austin, Texas

After matching on Hinge, Taylor + Drake’s very first flirtatious chats were about the important stuff: board games. Taylor let Drake know that when it comes to the game “Settlers of Catan” she doesn’t mess around. Drake picked up on her competitive streak and promised that, whenever they played, he would take all of her sheep. 

The romantic playfulness at the heart of Taylor + Drake’s love story definitely made its way into the design + feel of their whimsical Austin, TX wedding. With show stopping florals as a must going in, the couple teamed up with planner + event designer Andria Leigh Events to put together a “funky, weird, and impactful” celebration under the glorious Live Oak trees of The Addison Grove.

There was a springy color palette of terracotta, sage, and teal. There were some breathtakingly lush floral arrangements. There was a brass band. There was an espresso bar. The whole thing is the perfect combo of whimsy + romance, and we can’t wait to show you these gorgeous photos from Light As Gold.

So into the storybook vibes of these embossed raw-edge wedding invites from Peach Paper.

You know we love a pair of bridal sneakers, and these customized strawberry high top Converse are some of the *sweetest* we’ve ever seen.

“I actually bought a dress that I didn’t end up wearing!” recalls Taylor. “I remember picking it up and thinking ‘Ummm… how much champagne did I drink to think this was the one??’ Then, just a couple of months before the wedding I went to Cowboy Bride just to check out a trunk show and mostly look for veils and I found this Eisen Stein dress that just FLOORED me. I was like holy crap this is it. I feel like a real bride.”

“The first dress felt like it was for a princess. This dress felt like it was for a *queen*.”

Very into the floral vibes of this one-shoulder mother of the bride dress!

The teal vests + bowties of these otherwise-classic groomsmen tuxes added such a fun pop of color to the wedding party’s look.

Luna Beauty and Bridal did such a beautiful job with Taylor’s piecey, elegant bridal updo.

The Ceremony

The dried floral theme that echoed through all of Taylor + Drake’s wedding signage by Design to Flourish was such a funky, delicate way to add plenty of whimsy.

Can we all give Wild Bunches a standing ovation for these breathtaking ceremony florals!? So much lush + magical enchanted garden energy.

There’s just something about Austin, TX. Some of the most remarkable wedding florals happen there, like at this ethereal garden wedding and this wild overgrown wedding!

Our Favorite Memory
Drake: "Walking into the ceremony and seeing all of our friends and family who were there to support us. It was a very emotional and overwhelming experience."
Taylor: "The feeling I got when I first saw Drake as I walked down the aisle. It was just this peace. This feeling of “wow I am making the best decision of my life.” I’m obsessed with that man! I was so nervous all day but when I saw him it was the most grounding feeling."

When brides decide to rock a wedding veil it’s usually because they’re dreaming of a stunning ceremony shot like this one 😍

Texas Sun provided live tunes for the ceremony, and then Big Wy’s Brass Band took over, playing the couple back up the aisle and keeping the music going through cocktail hour.

The Reception

There are those fabulous dried florals again! SO in love with this lovely blush reception seating chart!

“We made the wedding very friend centric! We are both incredibly social people so we invited all of our friends from all over the place,” say Taylor + Drake. How yummy do those signature cocktails look! Also, that teal stemmed glassware is to die for.

Bee Lavish provided all of the warm wood guest seating and mixed-shape tables for this charming reception setup.

Table decor from Table Manners gave the celebration an elevated, earthy feel.

These velvet table numbers were such a fanciful, textured touch!

Also, we’re obsessed with the mismatched floral napkins and terracotta tablecloths from BBJ La Tavola. It’s giving enchanted garden party elegance.

SoHo Catering was on hand filling these rimmed terracotta dinner plates with an epic reception feast.

Our Advice
From the bride: "Have SO MUCH FUN planning! Try not to over stress and definitely don’t fight about it. My chiropractor told me “nobody will remember the napkins” and I was like easy for you to say, you’re a dude.. but it was so true.

Also, the posed photo shoots are fun but the best photos come from you on the dance floor/ interacting with each other and your guests. I wish we had only done immediate family (parents and siblings) and wedding party right after the ceremony. You can get pictures with your extended family during the reception!

Also- if you can, THROW AN AFTER PARTY! It was so nice getting to enjoy my reception and drink lightly and look pretty in all the pictures, and then take a bus to the after party and let ‘er rip!!"

Some final words of wisdom form the bride? “The rules of time do not apply on your wedding day. Truly, from the moment you wake up until your standing at the altar is the longest freakin day of your life. Then the second you say I do, time absolutely FLIES. It honestly felt like we finished dinner and then BAM everyone was lining up for the exit. So crazy! Soak it in!!!”

“Also, huge advocate for High Noons in place of Mimosas for the getting ready drink. They are much less likely for you to suddenly be surprise drunk off of and you also don’t get sleepy!”
