A Wedding At The Foot Of A Massive KAWS Sculpture

Why not start your married life together surrounded by masterpieces?

Ali + Josh tied the knot at the Brooklyn Museum amidst all kinds of artwork. We are fully obsessed with the flower-filled ceremony that took place in the museum’s Rubin Pavilion at the foot of a towering sculpture by famed contemporary artist KAWS.

The couple wanted a celebration that felt chic and elegant but also embraced the creativity and modern art edge of the venue. With the help of planners from Pejy Kash Events Ali + Josh brought their elevated “Night At The Museum” dreams to life, taking full advantage of their breathtaking venue, and photographer Jaymo James was there snapping gorgeous photos every step of the way!!

These sleek and elegant invites from Boxed Wedding Invitations totally set the tone for Ali + Josh’s sophisticated celebration. Notice that “black tie” dress code? There are some gorgeous guest attire moments in store.

The Ceremony

Ivie Joy added another work of art to the Brooklyn Museum’s collection for the night—these FLOWERS. Have you ever seen a more lush ceremony setup!?

Ali + Josh’s hyper-floral ceremony and the way it incorporated the massive wooden sculpture was an organic design nod to their love of the great outdoors.

“We knew that for the ceremony we wanted to arrange the space so the colossal eighteen-foot, wood KAWS sculptures were looking down on our couple, as if joining in the celebration of love,” says planner Pejy from Pejy Kash Events.

Our Musical Choices

Processional: "Perfect" by Ed Sheeran

Recessional: "Viva la Vida" by Coldplay

Who needs a custom neon wedding sign when you have a Hank Willis Thomas original?

Ali knew exactly what she wanted in a wedding dress. She just had go out and to find it! It took ten different try-on appointments to find *the* gown that ticked all the chic, minimalist, elegant, and modern boxes, but this beautiful button-back strapless Romona Keveza dress was the one! “The moment I put it on, the dress journey was complete,” Ali says. One of her fave details? The sculptural structure of the bodice perfect for a wedding in an art museum!

Ali’s chic low bun was the work of Gabrielle Hinton, and Makeup By Kai created her elegant glam makeup look.

“We wanted our guests to feel the love we share, experience our version of a Night At The Museum, and leave it all on the dance floor by our sides,” say Ali + Josh.

The Room Reveal

Ali + Josh had a moment to themselves to take in the stunning reception setup in the museum’s Beaux-Arts Court.

Eventlights, Inc. made the whole event space glow!

Planner Pejy says: “For the reception space we utilized the art on the walls as the inspiration and designed table settings that incorporated the colors and styles of the artwork.”

Loving the nods to abstract painter Mondrian in these bold primary color block place settings!

These black tufted back dining chairs add so much texture and shape to the reception tables.

Ali + Josh designed these clever one-of-a-kind unfolding box menus. They were full of the delicious details of the dinner that Great Performances put together AND they gave guests something to take those balloon dog sculptures home in!

Our Favorite Memory From The Wedding

Following the room reveal, our band leader Andrea from Hudson Project Band asked us if we wanted to do our first dance by ourselves before heading to cocktail hour- it was an offer we could not pass up. To have the jaw dropping room to ourselves and experience this private moment together is something we will never forget. It was as if we were able to stop time on a day that moves so quickly and take it all in together.

The Hudson Project kept guests dancing all night long!

A self-serve wandering ice cream station?! SO fun!!
