Calling all tortured poets! If you’re currently in your TTPD era (aren’t we all?), then prepare to fall in love with this dark and moody wedding photoshoot inspired by Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department!
Dreamed up by fellow Swiftie and wedding planner Melissa Close from Melissa Alison Events, this editorial is a romantic take on Taylor Swift’s most recent album. “Our aesthetic was based in moody, romantic, rich tones, with a modern twist on Victorian vintage era elements,” says Melissa.
The team also used Taylor and Post Malone’s “Fortnight” music video as inspo for this TTPD photoshoot, with Amber from Onyx and Amber Photography and Jessah from Jessah Blessah Films bringing the dark romance to life.
So queue up your favorite TTPD songs, break out your friendship bracelets, and let’s get into the photos!

Simple and elegant, these handmade wedding invitations from Kenzie May Co look straight out of the Tortured Poets Department. We especially love the typewriter-inspired font and dreamy pearl details!

Speaking of typewriters, it wouldn’t be a TTPD inspired photoshoot without one.

Vows inspired by Taylor Swift lyrics? Ummmm, yes please!
We’ve rounded up the best lyrics from every album for you to use as inspiration — and also check out our guide for writing your wedding vows. Because all’s fair in love and poetry, amiright?!

Wedding gloves are one of our favorite bridal fashion trends for 2024, and these black lace beauties bring ALL the drama. Elevate your wedding look with this similar pair!

Complete with pearl earrings and ruby rings from Alberta Diamond Exchange, it’s the definition of vintage romance.

Wildflower Artistry nailed that Taylor Swift-inspired red lip for the bride’s makeup look in this TTPD photoshoot. Snag this red lipstick (Taylor’s fave shade) to recreate the look yourself!

The romantic red color scheme continues with this whimsical bouquet from Hue Florals. It adds the perfect pop of color…and a subtle nod to our other favorite Taylor Swift album: Red. 🥀

The Poetic Reception (Taylor’s Version)

An inside look at this wow-worthy decor: “Deep reds, grey, black, and white set the scene for our shoot at the Gallery Studios in Calgary,” says Melissa. It’s dark. It’s moody. And it’s oh-so elegant. Perfect for a couple of tortured poets!

Shout out to Modern Rentals for this striking table design. We love the way it mixes modern and vintage pieces to create a dream-like look…so very on-theme for a Tortured Poets Department photoshoot.

No TTPD photoshoot would be complete without some serious Victorian gothic vibes. We’re especially digging those ornate champagne coupes for an extra vintage touch. Cheers to that!

Hello, drama! A hanging flower arrangement is such a whimsical and unexpected centerpiece for your reception tables. Add extra drama and height with these black tapered candles!

The cherry on top of this gorgeous TTPD photoshoot tablescape setup! 🍒

Romantic (Clara) bows on the wine glasses double as unique seating assignments, with gorgeous calligraphy from Letter Pretty…the real cherry on top of this TTPD photoshoot. Dazzling!!

I Love You…It’s Ruining My Life: A Dreamy Cake For Tortured Poets

We’ve seen a ton of wedding cakes in our day, but this one from Bake My Day definitely takes the, ahem, cake. We love the lyrical reference to one of our favorite TTPD songs: Fornight.

More bows!

Make your cake stand out by adding a transparent layer filled with special mementos or decorations that match your theme. This one features scraps of paper covered in TTPD lyrics — but you could also recreate it with love letters…they truly took this wedding photoshoot to the next level!

Another standing ovation for this show-stopping gown! We love it styled with those black ankle boots — kind of like the iconic boots Taylor wears on the Eras Tour. Get a similar look with these rhinestone booties from Betsey Johnson!

Alexa, play “So High School” by Taylor Swift! This hand-lettered mirror is the perfect finishing touch to this dreamy TTPD wedding photoshoot. Because there’s no such thing as too many Taylor Swift Easter eggs, even on your wedding day! Swifties, you already know, babe.
