This Funky Fairytale Wedding is Full of Inspiration for Couples Who Want to Stray From Tradition!

Funky Fairytale Texas Wedding

As a wedding planner for Piper and Sloan Weddings, the bride, Sloan, had a very specific and creative vision for her and her husband Nolan’s big day. She knew by having such a unique vision, that it would truly take an army to make it all come together! She also mentions how grateful she is to have married someone who was not afraid of color or to break tradition (because that’s exactly what they did!!) The pair wanted there to be intentionality behind each vendor they chose and each design choice that was made throughout the day.

When it came to florals, Sloan knew she wanted them to be very colorful + whimsical and she wanted them to be the focal point of the entire day. Elizabeth Moore from Blume Haus Events completely understood the assignment, TRUST us! And since this is the first wedding we’re sharing in 2023, let us just say that color is IN for weddings this year, so hopefully, this wedding encourages those of you currently planning to incorporate some color too!

Lauren Marie Photo has photographed 4 weddings that the bride had been in, so she was the obvious choice to capture their day. Laurens’s journalistic approach to documenting community at weddings matched the bride’s effortless and whimsical vision. She didn’t want any of the photos to feel very posed, and Lauren did a great job at giving direction while letting things still be natural.

Overall it was a breathtakingly gorgeous day at the Preserve at Canyon Lake in Texas full of inspiration for creative and rule-breaking couples! Let’s dive in!

You Are Cordially Invited!

Lettered by Valerie created this adorably dainty invitation suite with hints of blue to match perfectly with the wedding’s color scheme!

The most dreamy blue wedding dress!

These ladies got ready in style as they wore several gorgeous shades of blue! Their robes from Salt Gowns plus their fluffy slippers complimented the bride’s celestial-styled white robe so perfectly!

Something Borrowed, Something BLUE!

Let’s talk about this DRESS! How gorgeous is the bride in blue! She shared with us how she chose this princessy gown that we’re totally obsessing over:

“For as long as I can remember, I had wanted a blue wedding dress. I wanted a fairytale feel without being ~Cinderella~. While trying on wedding dresses, I knew that whatever I found, I would probably have to get it custom-made. Whenever I tried on the Khalo dress by Vagabond, I knew it was the one. Thankfully, they were able to make it in the perfect shade of blue that I was envisioning. My favorite part of the dress was the detachable train! All you had to do was snap it on and off, no messing with a bustle!”

How sweet was this bridal party’s first look! Their sweet expressions truly say it all!!

Sloan shared that when she pictured herself as a bride, she had also never envisioned herself wearing a veil. She never necessarily wanted to feel very “bridal-ly”, but after seeing the colorful sequined veil from Untamed Petals, it truly felt like it was made for her!

Sloan wanted to incorporate pearls on the florals and her florist made it happen! You know we love this!

Nolan ended up custom-designing a green suit from Indochino. He put so much thought into every detail and his olive green ended up perfectly complimenting Sloan’s dusty blue.

A Pristine Wedding Ceremony

Remember when we said the florals were going to be the focal point of the entire day? 😉 This wedding aisle is STUNNING!

Our Musical Choices

Processional: Springtime by Chris Renzema

Recessional: Mr. Blue Sky by Electric Light

First Dance: I guess I'm in Love by Clinton Kane

Funky Fairytale Texas Wedding

The couple’s music choices were something they did not take lightly. The entire wedding party and the bride herself walked down to Springtime by Chris Renzema. Nolan and Sloan’s faith is such a big part of their relationship and they wanted a song that would represent that!

Blume Haus Events had this gorgeous structure built that was incorporated in the ceremony and it could not have been more perfect.

“Because I wanted so much color, I knew that I wanted to ask our guests to wear all-black or white formal attire. I wanted color without it feeling chaotic.

I also had my bridesmaids wear white dresses from Azazie as well as blue shoes to go with my dress.”

The bride shares that being 5’10, she was never much of a heels girl, so Nolan ended up designing the two custom Nike Air Force wedding sneakers! Each of them had their initials on the back and made their entire night so much more comfortable!

“Our wedding day signage was very important to me. Lettered by Valerie designed a magical and colorful seating chart, as well as a welcome sign, bar signage, and escort cards. Because I work in the industry, almost all of my vendors are “friendors” which made me feel so comfortable on my wedding day.”

The Dreamy Reception Catered by Olive Garden!

The couple also ended up going a pretty non-traditional route in their meal choices. Sloan has always loved Olive Garden and so many of her and Nolan’s dates took place there, so naturally, they had Olive Garden cater with their make-your-own pasta station.

Never-ending love AND breadsticks were so fitting for the two!

Obsessing over the floral details that make up this fantastic tablescape! An absolute dinner dream!

Neither Sloan or Nolan are big cake people, but Nolan did want to keep the tradition of cutting a cake (this adorable floral cake is by Bake My Day!) Instead of having a giant cake to serve 300 guests, they ended up serving colorful French macaroons (Nolans choice) and Sloan had an Ice Cream Bar!

“We both love our dogs so we wanted to incorporate them into our special day. Instead of having a standard bride or groom drink, our specialty cocktail was “The Pongo” (which was a whisky sour named after his Dalmatian) and then we also served “The Vizzie” (a rum punch named after my Viszla).”

Nolan and I both graduated from Abilene Christian University (a small school in West Texas), but it was not until a New Years’ party in 2020, that we were able to meet again with new eyes. A year later, we got engaged and then on August 13th, 2022, we became husband and wife!”

Their Fun and Funky Wedding Exit

For the send-off, Sloan changed into the Renaissance Fairytale gown by Selkie. It was such a fun surprise for Nolan and all of their guests!

The two wanted to take a second to thank all of the wonderful and talented vendors that made this magical day happen!

So gorgeous you two! Congratulations to S+N, and best wishes from the GWS team!
