Spooky Sophistication: This Gothic LA Wedding’s Witchy Celestial Vibe Has Us Over the Moon 

“Halloween has always been one of my favorite times of year,” says October bride Raquel, “and I wanted our wedding to honor that sense of spookiness, but in a way that also felt elegant and sophisticated.”

On behalf of all the other Spooky Season lovers out there, we cannot wait to give you a peek into the moody, celestial magic that was Raquel + William’s autumnal LA wedding. 

“The inspiration for our wedding day really came from our love of autumn and the dark, moody vibe of gothic forests,” Raquel shares. “I wanted the theme to feel witchy, celestial, and atmospheric — something that captured the mystery of fall without drifting into anything overly kitschy.”

So the couple looked to the night skies, enchanted forests, and gothic aesthetics for inspiration, collaborating with event designers + planners from JM Events Co. to fill the courtyard + high-ceilinged event space at Serra On Vine with lovely lunar details + hauntingly chic vibes. 

“It was dramatic, and understated all at once—an experience that felt both intimate and cinematic,” the couple remembers. “The night unfolded like an otherworldly fever dream, where every detail mirrored our style and spirit.”

Burgundy reds, rich purples, fiery oranges, and midnight blacks made up the warmly gothic color world. Pops of metallic gold shimmered. Taper candles flickered, and skulls dotted the decor. And Joe+Kathrina were there capturing the day in all of its goth glam glory.

“In the end, it wasn’t just a wedding,” the couple shares, “but a living reflection of who we are together—our love captured in its purest form.”

First of all, we are so obsessed with Raquel’s bridal headband and the way its delicate white flower details match the florals of her dress.

“I found my dress at Fleurish LA,” Raquel remembers of her dress shopping journey. “I was looking for something that had a vintage vibe, and I thought the structured bodice was different, understated, yet sexy. It was originally just a zipper in the back, but I had my seamstress replace it with a corset and ribbon. I paired it with my black ankle cowboy boots to inject more of my personal style into it.”

Our Favorite Memory
The most memorable moment of our wedding day was stepping into the reception together for the first time as husband and wife. As Love and Rockets’ ‘So Alive’ played, the doors opened and the room came alive—our family and friends cheering, the lights, the decorations shimmering all around us. It felt like walking into another world, one created just for us, filled with love, joy, and celebration. In that instant, we weren’t just entering a room—we were entering the start of our life together, surrounded by everyone who mattered most.

Our Advice
1. Prioritize what matters to you. Decide early on the few elements that really define you as a couple—whether it’s music, food, décor, or atmosphere—and build the day around those. For us, it was the music, atmosphere, and décor that defined the night. Your wedding should feel like stepping into your world: your style, your dream, your love story.

2. Keep it intentional. Don’t add things just because “every wedding has them.” If something doesn’t excite you, skip it.

3. Balance drama with simplicity. A striking entrance, one perfect song, or bold décor can stand out more than a thousand little extras.

4. Short and sweet can be powerful. A ceremony doesn’t have to be long to be meaningful—sometimes brevity makes it even more dramatic.
