A Colorfully Romantic Alabama Wedding Rich With Thoughtful Details

Design nerds: assemble!

If you’re obsessed (like we are) with the magical way that all the smallest elements of a wedding day’s design can come together to create a super-cohesive bigger picture, you’re going to LOVE this vibrant + elegant Alabama wedding at Pursell Farms.

To build the day’s colorful, one-of-a-kind aesthetic, bride Casey — a project manager at a sports marketing and events agency — planned her wedding to groom Spencer like she might many of the projects in her professional life: with a thoughtful, brand-oriented approach.

“With the bride being a marketing professional by day, she knew she wanted a cohesive wedding design that was a true “branded” reflection of her and her husband,” says Valerie of the design + planning team at LBV Design House.

“From a design standpoint, I knew I wanted something that felt bright, welcoming and unique,” bride Casey shares. “Neither of us are from the “deep south” and while southern weddings are beautiful, they just don’t really feel like us. As someone who works in marketing, I know that branding is made up of a lot of intentional touchpoints. I’d like to think that a friendship with Spencer and me feels very thoughtful, so I wanted the day to feel like we’d thought about all the little details.”

And the detail work really is blowing our minds. For example: there were personalized decks of playing cards used as escort cards (that matched the day’s chic, boutique-hotel-worthy paper goods, of course) as well as a deck of cards for guests to sign as a guest book. Then there were nods to chess in the invitation suite that paid off when guests played giant chess during cocktail hour or clocked the chess-set-inspired black + white details in the decor that balanced the day’s brighter hues. And all of these little details were ways of immersing guests in Casey + Spencer’s life together – their “brand” – by pointing back to the couple’s love of games.

“Team LBV Design House was challenged to bring a colorfully romantic day to life that exuded refinement, while still being playful and FUN,” Valerie adds. “We ditched the Alabama classic wedding and went on a journey of perfecting every single detail in a way that felt new, fresh, and one of a kind.”

We’re so lucky that The Wipplers were on duty snapping these stunning wedding photos so we can give you a proper peek into this detail-driven day!

“Danielle Rolla of Second Twin Stationary delivered on my paper dreams,” says Casey. “As a marketing girlie, I knew branding was worth investing in. The details that she wove throughout every single piece of paper and signage was amazing. I had several people tell me our invitations were the coolest they’ve ever seen and many more come up to me before and after the wedding saying they just couldn’t believe all the details and how there was nothing that we didn’t think of.”

“Her ability to make our paper goods feel unique, fun, funky and still elevated is amazing and something I’m still in awe of.”

We spy some super cute custom playing cards!! 👀

Old Frond Floral Co. captured the lime green, orange, and delicate pink color world of the wedding so perfectly with this bridal bouquet!

As you can imagine, we can’t help but adore any wedding where the bride rocks a pair of green wedding shoes. How cute are these Lafayette Pointed Toe Slingback from Circus NY by Sam Edelman in lime chartreuse?!

Obsessed with the romance + warmth of these mismatched bridesmaid dresses!

The Ceremony

“Anna Lee and Old Frond Floral Co. absolutely blew me away with the florals,” Casey says. “I admittedly didn’t put a huge priority on florals and I was much better at articulating what I didn’t like rather than what I did. Anna went above and beyond.”

“The biggest testament is that my father is STILL talking about the florals. This is a man who only buys my mom roses because he knows they’re a safe bet. Six months later and he’s still telling me how incredible they were. In fact, he jokingly said that the only feedback he had on our wedding video was that he wished there were more clips of the florals.”

“I got my dress from Ava Laurenne Bridal in Fredericksburg, Virginia,” Casey recalls of how she found this long sleeve lace stunner by Justin Alexander which she paired with a cathedral length wedding veil from Blanca Veils.

“Going wedding dress shopping was actually one of the most special parts of the whole thing. My grandmother, who I’m very close with, was not able to travel to my wedding due to declining health. I wanted to ensure she would get to see me in my wedding dress, so I planned a trip home so that she could go shopping with me, my mom and my sister.”

“I love my bridal portraits and my alterations could not have come out more perfectly, but one of my favorite photos of me in my dress is the one in the shop with my grandmother, clips and all.”

The Reception

Here’s where those custom decks of cards come into *play.* Each guest retrieved a deck with their name from this arched floral seating chart that guided them to their reception seat. Such a brilliant way to combine escort cards with guest favors!

We’ve got a whole roundup of creative wedding reception seating chart ideas to help you brainstorm a reception welcome as unforgettable as Casey + Spencer’s.

Our Favorite Memory

Spencer and I ended up eating a private dinner together. I remember him saying that he was worried this would mean we would miss getting to see our guests and I asked him to just trust me and eat privately with me. I wish I could say this was some romantic, elaborate meal. It was really just us eating our food as fast as we could, him helping me go to the bathroom and literally running across the lawn to get back to the party. Because we were able to eat on our own, we were able to spend the guests’ dinnertime walking from table to table saying hi to everyone. While our first meal as a married couple wasn’t the most romantic meal of our lifetime, it did allow us to have a really intentional time with our guests, something that I’m very glad we did! I also smile when I think of us sitting in a room having a nice meal and joking with each other to eat faster and the giggles that we had as he helped me with my ballgown as I went to the bathroom. We truly felt like little kids!

“Valerie Strenk of LBV Design House is nothing short of a fairy godmother,” Casey shares. “Her vision, attention to detail, kindness and professionalism is unmatched. Working in events, I thought I understood what organization and event execution looks like on a high level. Valerie is in a league of her own.”

The day’s sprawling banquet table setup and its light wood guest seating were the work of Eventworks Rentals.

BBJ La Tavola, Nuage Designs, and Stradley Davidson came together to outfit the celebration with all of its gorgeous linens. (Obsessed with those white napkins with black trim and the way they pop against all the springy pinks + greens.)

That DRAPING! On Site Productions transformed the space with those swooping swaths of green silk.

Prophouse Birmingham Something Vintage, and Decor To Adore contributed specialty rentals to help complete the day’s distinct vision.

Our Musical Choices

Let the party begin!! This sky-lit tent + black and its white checkerboard dance floor Soho Tents + Events made for a chic spot to take the celebration to the next level.

This has to be one of our favorite guest book ideas. Now whenever Casey + Spencer shuffle this special deck, they can read back through wedding day well wishes from all of their loved ones!

DJ Mason Music was on hand to get guests up and dancing.

“To be surrounded by all of our people having fun was the most incredible thing,” Casey shares. “I could have stayed on the dance floor all night long. It was just so fun to bump from group to group and feel so loved and celebrated.”

Snag a sparkle fringe cowboy hat and the Lucia Mini Dress by Nadine Merabi to recreate Casey’s spectacularly shimmery reception look!

Olexa’s Cafe created this gorgeous three-tier cherry-adorned vintage wedding cake.

Our Advice

Enjoy it and release the pressure of it having to be perfect. Stuff will happen! I realized the Wednesday before my wedding that I had signed a contract for my HMUA with the wrong date on it (this was done before Valerie came on the scene, I had gone rogue). I did have a moment where I stressed about the fact that I was going to have to find a last minute artist and go into it without a trial. It ended up working out just fine. Honestly, I’m smiling so hard in all of my pictures because I was so happy that it wouldn’t have mattered if I had makeup on or not. All I feel when I look at my pictures is the pure joy that I felt from that day.
This may sound contradictory, but prioritize your guests’ experience. If you want your guests to have a good time, think through intentional, thoughtful things that will make it easier for them to do so. Sometimes, that's something as unsexy as spending hours running the numbers on your shuttle schedule, providing flip flops for dancing, asking your stationary team to design an on-brand sign to display the wifi password or reiterating to your venue that you do in fact need a free-standing water station separate from the bar. That may be the event nerd in me, but I truly think a big reason why our wedding was so filled with joy is because all of our guests were happy, taken care of and to me it felt like they genuinely wanted to be there until the very last song. There’s no better way to show someone you love them then making them feel seen. While a wedding is a celebration of your love as a couple, it also is a celebration of all of the people who helped get you there. Prioritizing the convenience and comfort of your guests is how you can make them feel seen and loved.

Congratulations, Casey + Spencer! It’s all in the details, and your detail-rich Alabama wedding was an absolute dream of a day! All the best from GWS!
