This Eclectic, Color-Rich San Francisco Wedding Was “Unhinged in the Best Way”

A grand + stately historic venue? A playful, modern, color-rich aesthetic? It may not be the first combo that comes to mind, but for Hannah + Philip, it was the balance of antique elegance + vibrant joy that made their San Francisco wedding absolutely, unforgettably one-of-a-kind.

“Rather than leaning into the Flood Mansion’s traditional, regal aesthetic, we wanted to flip it on its head and make it feel like a rager was being thrown at Grandma’s house,” the bride + groom share.“Colorful, eclectic, joyful, and a little unhinged in the best way.”

You’ll see it in all of these stellar snaps from Laura Kudritzki, but the wild + whimsical energy of Hannah + Philip’s wedding aesthetic filled the day with romance, radiance, and can’t-help-but-smile level joy.

“We worked closely with our planner, Kellyne Mendoza of Hand + Heart Events, to infuse the entire weekend with pieces of our story and the funky, effervescent, and kaleidoscopic soul of San Francisco,” Hannah and Philip say. “From bold patterns and sculptural florals to experience-driven moments like a welcome baseball game at Oracle Park and a rehearsal dinner at our favorite neighborhood haunt, every choice was about creating a fully immersive, meaningful moment in time for our guests — many of whom traveled from across the country to celebrate with us.”

Marigolds, lilies, and carnations draped dreamily throughout the lush ceremony florals. Mixed patterns in yellow + coral played beautifully together in the reception design. The bride and groom wowed the crowd with whimsical, vintage-inspired wedding day style. And at the root of the couple’s design vision was the desire to open up their hearts and extend some large-scale hospitality to all the friends + fam on their guest list.

“From the very beginning, we centered our planning around how we wanted our people to feel,” say Hannah + Philip. “We love hosting and creating experiences for friends and family, so the wedding became an extension of that part of our lives.”

Brace yourself for some serious Bay Area brilliance. This one will have you dreaming in full-blown color.

“The day felt like a true reflection of who we are and the community that surrounds us,” the couple adds, “and that’s something we’ll carry with us forever.”

“I got to wear Lela Rose’s Clairette gown in all its light-soaked organza glory,” Hannah says of her 3D flower-adorned wedding dress, “and I paired it with an elbow length organza wedding veil and strappy white sandals with a block heel I knew I could get around in.”

The Ceremony

“The florals were bright and whimsical with elements of fruit and unique blooms,” says planner Kellyne of Hand + Heart Events about the day’s sunny + wild arrangements by Marigold.

“Philip worked with the Tailor’s Keep experts to create a drop-dead gorgeous double breasted linen-blend wedding suit in burnt sienna,” says the bride of her new hubby’s earth-tone look. “He paired this fit with vintage brown Frye campus boots, a creamy white dress shirt and a black satin ribbon tie.”

“Philip and I knew we did not want to fall back on too many microtrends, monochromatic colorways, or other more traditional wedding look tropes. We started our fashion visioning from a place of understanding what to avoid which ultimately helped better illustrate what we were searching for: vintage inspired silhouettes and whimsy.”

“We met on Hinge in the midst of all things 2020,” remember the newlyweds of their love story’s pandemic-era early days. “Philip asked if I wanted to join him on a big walk around the neighborhood. The walk became an impromptu park beers which turned into dinner then ended with a sweet walk all the way back to my apartment and a hug goodbye. We were both crushing the whole time.”

Gotta love a dress code!! “We asked our guests to show up for the wedding in creative cocktail attire hoping folks would lean into color, texture and get to show off more of their own personal style,” shares the couple.

Our Favorite Memory
It’s impossible to choose just one, but standing together and looking out at a room filled with people we love — surrounded by color, laughter, and the feeling that everyone was completely in it with us — is something we’ll never forget. The dance floor energy, the little surprises woven throughout the day, and ending the night sweaty, euphoric, and still in our wedding looks felt like the perfect culmination of everything we hoped the day would be.

The Reception

“We utilized a ton of color, texture, prints and patterns, and vintage details,” says Kellyne of the celebration’s decor details which utilized some specialty rentals from Folklore. “The design was eclectic and unexpected with little surprises for guests woven throughout the day.”

Guests enjoyed a delicious dinner by Foxtail Catering, detailed on these super cute stripey menus.

Loving the charming color + pattern combos featured in these vibrant linens from BBJ La Tavola.

“The centerpieces,” Kellyne reflects, “served as a sculptural element on the tables and complemented the bold design choices of the entire wedding day.”
