This Couple Filled Their Industrial Wedding Venue With Uniquely Beautiful Flowers + Lights

There are so many variations when it comes to venues, but if you’re the kind of couple that wants to use your creativity to transform a warehouse-style space for your wedding day, this one is definitely for you.

Maggie + Crosby, a video producer and industrial designer respectively, used their creative eye to fill SoWa Boston—a sprawling 26k square foot former power station located in the city’s South End—into an immersive + romantic experience for their guests.

“They were only the third couple to share their nuptials in the space,” remembers event designer + planner Phoebe of AE Events. “The space featured 67’ ceilings, windows like a cathedral, exposed brick walls, steel beams in the ceiling and can accommodate over a thousand guests, yet, instead, we curated an intensely intimate experience for 160 family members and the closest of friends.”

Every moment of this inventive, floral-filled warehouse wedding was packed with unique details. “Our approach was to find event-design artists with visions that we loved,” Maggie + Crosby say, “and then do all we could to collaborate and support them in their endlessly creative ideas.”

So glad that Gabby Riggieri was there catching so much of the day’s lush-yet-industrial beauty from behind the camera!

Groom Crosby Reinders designed every single bit of signage and all of the brilliant black, white, and silver paper goods for the Big Day. We are very into this festive + sophisticated modern monochrome aesthetic!

“Our florist, Many Graces, planted seeds and bulbs in their gardens to grow specially for Maggie and Crosby’s special day,” remembers planner + event designer Phoebe. “We even had the opportunity to visit the bulbs in the ground during our meetings.”

The First Look

So obsessed with the one-of-a-kind, custom strapless high slit column gown that Maggie created with local Boston designer David Josef.

“We were very happy to see ourselves and each other in every aspect of the day,” say Maggie + Crosby of contributing to elements like the paper goods and wedding gown design.

The Ceremony

Implementing some creative ceremony seating was a brilliant way to make the most of this massive ceremony space.

Loving the way that Maggie + Crosby used these mossy, candle-filled floral arrangements to create an organic + whimsical aisle in the wide open metal-and-brick venue.

That massive, magnificent hanging installation!! Imagine getting married underneath something so beautiful.

“Guests were seated in the round,” says planner + event designer Phoebe, “and throughout the ceremony our bride and groom periodically turned 45 degrees so that each guest had an opportunity to fully envelop the couple with their love and support.”

The Reception

“Guests then moved to nearly 70’ long rectangular dinner tables,” Phoebe says of the transition to this banquet reception setup. “They were embellished with candles, accent lighting, and autumn’s most beautiful tall branch material in shades of warm amber and golden yellow and coral to create an intimate setting.”

Alternating towering floral centerpieces with low ones was a super clever way to incorporate levels into the overall shape of the tablescapes’ design. Also, how cute is this darling detail from Phoebe: “Each place setting was hand made by our couple with their vintage label maker.”

Rentals from Peak Event Services and Taylor Creative Inc. outfitted the industrial space with its luxe reception decor details.

Suzanne B. Lowell Lighting Design created what Phoebe describes as a “truly epic ‘starry night’ custom chandelier made from over 250 LED light bulbs.”

Maggie + Crosby’s guests feasted on a reception dinner menu + wedding cake catered by Max Ultimate Food.

Gather a silver table cloth and some silvery gray napkins of your own and pair them with some modern brass candlesticks to recreate the eclectic + elegant mixed metal effect of Maggie + Crosby’s reception table decor.

Our Favorite Memory
Every moment of the wedding was perfect, from the ceremony to dinner to dancing into the night—but one of our favorite memories was stealing away to the dance floor for an unplanned, unofficial first dance to Sade's "Smooth Operator" (performed by our amazing band, Splash!) while our guests found their seats for dinner. The moment went un-photographed and mostly unnoticed and that made it an extra special memory that just the two of us share.

Our Advice
Our piece of advice would be to have some form of photography/videography to capture moments of the day. Our wedding photos and videos by the phenomenal photographer Gabby Riggieri and her team, are something we treasure and enjoy being able to look back at to relive the day.  

“Getting married surrounded by friends, family, and the art that our talented event teams created was more than we ever could have asked for or dreamt up!” say the bride + groom. “We are forever grateful to all the incredible people that made the day magic.”
