A cute (and easy!) diy to create your very own papel picado flags – similar to the ones from this feature I posted this morning. Thanks so much to Posh Paperie for creating this for GWS!
Supplies Needed:
various colors of tissue paper
red tape
scissors
ribbon
paper for template
1. Fold paper (for template) into 1/6’s (length-wise); once paper is in 1/2, fold in 1/3’s
2. Cut small shapes along the folded sides of the template
3. Open to see if you like the pattern, then lay template over the tissue paper (which should be folded in the exact same way the template is)
4. Cut the tissue in the same pattern as the template
5. Unfold…and repeat in like manner for other colors of tissue
6. Lay ribbon out and place adhesive on it leaving plenty of room on each side to be able to tie the banner up
7. Place tissue flags on the ribbon to line up like a banner
8. Adhere another ribbon the the front side of the banner…smooth to create a banner
And you have your own papel picado flags – perfect for a backyard wedding! :)

i love papel picado! they had a cute freebie in the hitched grab bag and their stuff is incredible! this diy seems so fun and a must try :)
I think we all have summer and barbecues in the backyard on the brain! I love this, it’s so simple and pretty.
Hey Jen, what would you think of a papel picado snowflake banner for winter wedding?
I love the DIY entries! And I’m loving this papel picado project…I will have to give it a try! :-)
This looks like a great and fun project.
Two questions though:
-what is red tape?
and
-you mention ribbon but it’s not on the list of materials needed. will any wide ribbon suffice?
Thanks so much.
Wow, I’m incredibly out of it today. I asked earlier about ribbon and I look back and somehow see it right there on the materials list when I was certain it wasn’t there before. I apologize, I’m a bit dingy lately.
Ohh …i love this ,great idea !!
