This Celestial LA Wedding Was an Out-Of-This-World Celebration of Queer Love

Shimmery stars. Colorful celestial details. Stunning rooftop views. This one has it all!

Turi + Brianna’s intimate Los Angeles wedding turned the Andaz West Hollywood hotel into the site of a sparkling, starry celebration of love. With the night sky as their inspiration and the help of Anything But Gray Events this couple embraced rich pinks, purples, and sunset tones and paired those with all kinds of metallic accents to create a vibrant and modern indoor-outdoor wedding that utilized the hotel’s rooftop poolside AND penthouse ballroom.

We love that when choosing their vendor team Turi + Brianna prioritized small businesses that were LGBTQIA+ affirming and women-owned in order to highlight, support, and give back to inclusive wedding industry institutions in their community.

There were balloons. There were tons of twinkly, starry touches. Everything that could be glittery was glittery. We are absolutely over the moon for this whole day.

How clever is this?! Since they tied the knot poolside, Turi + Brianna used a white pool cabana as the base for their ceremony backdrop and decked it out with vibrant, greenery-filled floral installations!

Giant colorful balloons from Balloonzilla filled the pool during the ceremony! Loving all of the joyful color they added to the space.

A Celestial Celebration

“The celestial theme for our wedding was already magical, but we wanted to find a way to incorporate some of our nerdy interests into the decor as well,” says the couple. “We brainstormed ways that could tie in with the celestial theme and decided on painting a seating chart where the tables were fandom-themed islands floating on a galaxy backdrop. We felt this was a creative and elegant way to nod to the fandoms we love without having to incorporate additional decorations and cost. It became one of our favorite features at the wedding.”

“Brianna studied studio art in college but was nervous about starting the seating chart because she hadn’t painted in a while and had never painted on a watercolor canvas before. It took a lot of coaxing from Turi and psyching herself up, and we didn’t finish it until a couple of late nights before the wedding when we were already in the midst of all the last-minute prep. It was definitely worth overcoming the nerves and taking the time to do it because it added a personal touch that we and our guests loved, and now we get to hang it on our wall at home. And Turi is very proud that she created all the galaxy’s stars by flicking the white paint on the canvases and adding rhinestone accents!”

Our Advice To Those Planning Now

“Hire a planner who aligns with your values! Everyone should hire a good wedding planner to keep you on track and make sure your wedding goes smoothly. We had a few moments during the planning process where we wouldn't have known where to start, how to fix, or what to choose, without Holly's help. It was also very important to us that we were spending our money with queer-affirming vendors that align with our values. A wedding is a lot of money to spend and you want to know your money is going to the right places. We knew we could trust Holly of Anything But Gray Events to help us spend our money the right way.”
“In addition to the right vendors, choose the right people to support you during this process. Everyone is always asking about the wedding and it can be fun or stress-relieving to chat about the planning process, but it can also be exhausting and sometimes more frustrating depending on who you're chatting with.”
“Try to identify your safe spaces where you can honestly vent and truly want the advice vs where you need to have succinct answers and know you're going to ignore the advice. Be there for each other after the conversations that are not safe spaces, and know when you're going to be in your safe space next, so you can look forward to it. Many people will share what they did with their weddings when you're talking about your own, and it can be hard for them to not take it personally if you want to make different choices. We were lucky to have married friends who were very open about their own wedding planning challenges and supportive and understanding of ours.”
“When deciding who to have in our wedding parties, we knew we needed to be thoughtful about who was going to be around us all day. We each have a different number of siblings, and because of that and various family dynamics, we decided to take siblings off the table for wedding parties completely. Instead, we chose our longest and most trusted friendships, people whom we knew we could feel vulnerable and totally comfortable with, no matter what happened. We knew we could rely on them to feel supported and have fun all day and throughout the whole process! So many people -- parents, vendors, everyone who interacted with them -- said what we already knew: that we had the best wedding party!”
