America the Beautiful: A Moody + Wild 4th of July for Those with Adventurous Hearts

4th of July Wedding Inspiration

Oh those halcyon summer days… Happy almost 4th of July, everyone! In honor of the holiday, we’re sharing this moody + wild “America the Beautiful” inspired editorial. For this, Marisa of Revel Petals wanted to emphasize the wilderness + nature — we’re kind of envisioning all the wide open expanses + gorgeous mountain scenes you’d find if you were taking a road trip through the USA.

She shares: Long summer days at the lake came to mind, and as our “purple mountain majesties” we chose a lake beneath Mount Hood: Trillium Lake. To round out the moody Americana color palette, the team chose a sparkling gown from Elizabeth Dye, and of course, incorporated a smattering of shimmering stars.

Let’s take a peek at the photos by Dawn Photo, shall we?!

The Outfits

Dawn’s natural color sense lead perfectly to a more muted treatment of red white and blue, with an earthiness that is both grounded and dreamy, bold and beautiful.

Elizabeth Dye 'Xanadu' Dress

Isn’t this dress a Elizabeth Dye dress a DREAM?! We love how they paired it with the starry Elizabeth Bower veil. That’s a winning combo in our book.

Hellllllloooo, florals. Keeping things moody + subtle, Revel Petals used muted tones and tons of texture to create this Americana-inspired bouquet. Such a fresh take, don’t you think?

Marisa of Revel Petals shares: More celestial inspiration came in the flower selection; the main focus being nigella, with its star-like shape dotting both bouquets and table arrangements. I left the sprays of nigella loose and natural, allowing its spangled stems to take center stage.

In case you aren’t familiar with “America the Beautiful,” here is the original poem by Katherine Lee Bates (1893):

O beautiful for halcyon skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the enameled plain!
America! America!
God shed His grace on thee,
Till souls wax fair as earth and air
And music-hearted sea!

O beautiful for pilgrim feet
Whose stern, impassioned stress
A thoroughfare for freedom beat
Across the wilderness!
America! America!
God shed His grace on thee
Till paths be wrought through wilds of thought
By pilgrim foot and knee!

O beautiful for glory-tale
Of liberating strife,
When once or twice, for man’s avail,
Men lavished precious life!
America! America!
God shed His grace on thee
Till selfish gain no longer stain,
The banner of the free!

O beautiful for patriot dream
That sees beyond the years
Thine alabaster cities gleam
Undimmed by human tears!
America! America!
God shed His grace on thee
Till nobler men keep once again
Thy whiter jubilee!

So, with the beauty of America’s wilderness at the forefront of their minds, the team set the canoe adrift the glassy still waters, filled with flowers, and imagined it floating off into the “halcyon skies” on a Fourth of July…
