On a bright + sunny day in NYC, two brides set off for City Hall in flawlessly retro wedding day looks. They shared their vows; they shared a kiss; now they share a beautiful life together. But that’s nothing new for these two who also share a name! That’s right — welcome to the wedding of Sarah + Sarah!
“Sarah and Sarah’s elopement day was nothing less than vintage elegance and chic romance,” Kameron of Kam Wickam Photography says, “like it was the 1950s.”
Inspired by the iconic silhouettes of mid-20th century movie stars, the Sarahs (one goes by the nickname ‘Bunny’) curated a vintage bridal aesthetic and a romantic, just-them New York elopement itinerary that any old soul would adore.
“We love all things vintage and wanted to feel like we had stepped out of a time machine that day,” say the brides of the vision behind their decade-defying wedding day. “Sarah loves the movie The Clock with Judy Garland, and that was a key point of inspiration for her. Bunny loves the architecture and quintessential New York City imagery, so it was a no-brainer to run around the city.”
We are of course obsessed with both of the wedding dresses these brides chose (Bunny’s tulle skirt! Sarah’s capelet!), but it goes beyond that: glittery silver heels; a bow veil; a pillbox hat; a Chanel handbag; retro sunglasses. This accessory situation was truly off-the-charts.
Kameron commemorated the spirit of the Sarahs’ City Hall elopement so perfectly when she said: “This couple embraced their untraditional wedding day with so much love.”
It’s true — we’ve got a soft spot for elopements. How could you not?! There’s so much to love about a big wedding, but there’s something so cinematic about keeping it impulsive + intimate!
On the subject of their stunning vintage-inspired bridal silhouettes, this is what the Sarahs had to say: “EBay is a great hunting ground for vintage items if you want the genuine thing…”
“…If you’re not able to find true vintage pieces, we looked at silhouettes as our key frame. Bunny wanted something that reminded her of the Dior New Look while Sarah wanted to lean more towards 60s Mod.”
“But always remember there’s always a grandma out there who has boxes in the attic of things she may want to see have a new life.”
Our Favorite Memory
When the clerk called us over right before they needed to close for lunch. They nearly gave us a heart attack and made us think they may not marry us.
Absolutely obsessed with the idea of using a bridal purse as your something blue! Especially when it’s a designer gem like Sarah’s Chanel handbag.
The Sarahs knew full well that a pair of retro white frame bridal sunglasses is the key to completing a vintage-inspired bridal silhouette.
