Modern Outdoor Wedding: Alex + John

Alex + John are both graphic designers, so when they got engaged they were thrilled to design their wedding! They agreed that their wedding should be rustic, light, fun + romantic. Inspired by the olive groves at their venue, they hung lots of twinkle lights from the trees.  When their guests arrived at their wedding, they wanted them to enjoy a feeling of comfort as apposed to them noticing a particular theme or certain color palette. Another fun note – Alex was going from the last name Goedhart (good-heart) to Choura, so they chose to incorporate hearts into the wedding design. So perfect for this time of year too!

From Alex, “Most weddings are planned primarily by the bride, but John and I both planned the wedding equally and were completely on the same page about the style + feel of the wedding. With us both being designers, we knew exactly what vendors we wanted to use to help make our wedding great! We both designed and letterpressed our invitations and menus! It was such a blast being able to do that process together and produce something we both really loved.”

Thanks so much to Lehua Noelle for the photos and congrats to Alex + John!

My friend Eva Black and I did some DIY projects before the wedding. We both made the tassel chuppah, the ‘hear comes the bride’ flags, the coffee filter instillation and the table seating boards. I myself made all of the place setting tags, table numbers + pie flags.

Our Favorite Memory From The Wedding

I would say the most memorable moment of the wedding day for me was the first dance. We danced to "You're the One that I Want" cover by Angus & Julia Stone. It was the most awkward yet most fun moment of my life! John & I slow danced and were whispering to each other how much we loved each other and how crazy it was that we were both married while also whispering 'i don't remember this song being this long…why is everyone staring at us?'! We both really love the words to that song and grew up watching Grease.

Our Advice To Those Planning Now

Planning the wedding with John was one of the best experiences of my life! Even if you think that your fiancé would never understand your vision for the wedding, give him a chance! It is a day that the both of you will want to look back on together and be happy with how it turned it out. Guys like to pretend like they aren't interested in weddings but you would be surprised with what great ideas they have hidden!
