Handmade Alaskan State Park Wedding: Grace + Alex

Eclectic Alaska Wedding

We’re pretty in love with today’s incredible wedding, held at Hatcher Pass State Park in Alaska + captured beautifully by the amazing Benj Haisch. We don’t get the chance to share too many Alaska weddings on GWS, and today’s is so uniquely beautiful we think you’ll be inspired by all the handmade details Grace + Alex included in their day! Below they tell us more about how they brought their ideas to life + incorporated their personalities into the setting:

We were inspired by the Earth, by music, by art, by God, by golden relationships. We wanted our wedding to look like our living room (our friends sharing their songs, weird mismatched placemats, coffee & birds everywhere, all of our favorite things in one place). Our relationship was fully formed on making & sharing music together & the music was key to our day.

Grace wore a thrifted vintage dress, embellished by Shirley Novak + Maggie Morock. She carried a bouquet made by Alex’s mother, Khrista and wore a gorgeous, whimsical crown by Theresa Bear.

Our wedding party was full of painters & songwriters, & during the reception we enjoyed what everyone had to offer, including a song that a dear friend had written specifically for us on our wedding day(so much crying)! The day was completely homemade by loving hands of dear friends. Painted banners & birds, Joann’s flower crowns, handsewn wool mountains lining the bottom of my dress. I was a forest queen & he was a rare tree. Everything about our day blew my mind, it was full of magic & love.

Our Favorite Memory From The Wedding

During the time of worship, we were able to just close our eyes, pause, & be fully enveloped in the truth: that what we have together is a gift, that we were blessed beyond belief, that God was truly with us, that we were standing on a mountaintop with the wind destroying our good looks, surrounded by absolute love in every direction, & that we were getting married. I didn't expect to have a moment of such true peace during our ceremony (we were so nervous!) but I feel lucky that I got it.

The woodland-camp vibe styled throughout the reception – held at First Presbyterian Church of Wasilla – was just so good. Shop our guide below to incorporate a similar look into your day!
