Handmade Costa Rican Wedding: Nati + Sergio

gold letter balloons

Isn’t it incredible that in today’s modern world of weddings, we get see + be so inspired by celebrations from not only all over the country, but all over the world? For instance, take Nati + Sergio’s whimsical, handmade Costa Rican affair. It was filled with love, laughter, good food, great details and an overall sense that Nati + Sergio were represented through and through. Oh-so-pretty and we’re so, so glad we get to share it with you guys today! The lovely Nati has so much to add about their love story + wedding, so let’s hear it:

Everything started 8 years ago on a bus stop; we started dating two weeks later, and got engaged! He is a copywriter and I’m a graphic designer, so we tried to make as much as we could ourselves. My dress was made by some lovely local ladies, we planted every single plant, we went hunting for the old books. Some of the decor was from our backyard and some was christmas decor spray painted with white and gold! I designed all the paper goods and my sisters, maid of honor and best friend helped me the day before the wedding with the bouquets and boutonnières.

Thanks so much to White Diamond for the photos and big congrats to the happy couple! :)

We’re super into the guys’ stylish, patterned shirts, chosen in lieu of a more formal suit.

Our Favorite Memory From The Wedding

We wanted to get married near our actual home, so we got married in Hotel La Condesa, in San Rafael, de Heredia, Costa Rica. It's a very rainy and foresty area. Good for us it didn't rain on our wedding day, but it was windy, very windy, like it was so windy that one of the cameras of the video crew was on a balcony in a tripod, and while we where in our first dance, IT JUST FLEW AWAY FROM A THREE STORY FLOOR!, luckily for the crew, the tripod got stuck in some ivy! (and this, is caught on tape!)

6 years ago I got tattooed Never Grow Up on my arm, 2 years ago he got Forever Young on his stomach. It wasn't until later that we realize we had the same motto in different words tattooed, so my wedding band says: Forever Young, and his says: Never Grow Up.

My dad passed away years ago and my mother gave me some of his jewels so we could help ourselves with the wedding, she said: look at it, as your fathers help from heaven. Our rings are made out of the gold of my parents wedding bands, and have the sapphires of one of my father lapel pins. My mother made a necklace with the remaining gold and stones. And she borrowed it to me on my wedding day, so I had a 4 in 1: something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue.

Our Advice To Those Planning Now

Things will never go 100% perfect, but think at it as the day you have been working on, and thinking about for the last months, do not let small things bother you. Also don’t do anything the last two days before the wedding, you must rest, and forget about details and stuff, don’t stress and have a good time, don’t do any crazy stuff the day before because you might injure yourself (I was carrying a huge box of strawberries and got my back injured trying to put it down carefully. Spent my whole wedding weekend with back pain meds!)
