Bohemian Oahu Wedding: Alana + Kyle

hawaii bride and groom

If you’ve recently picked up a copy of Pacific Weddings Magazine, you may recognize Kyle + Alana and their gorgeous Oahu wedding, photographed by Brooke Dombroski, which is featured in the latest issue. Today we’re excited to share even more of their day here on GWS!

Kyle + Alana met and got engaged on the sandy beaches of Hawaii, so it seemed only natural for this fun-loving couple to host their ceremony along the rugged Oahu coastline and then their reception at Alana’s family estate, tucked away in the Pupukea Mountains. The decor portrayed a tropical, bohemian vibe. Since both Kyle + Alana are creatives by trade (Kyle, the design director at DC Shoes and Alana, the designer behind jewelry line Thread + Stone) they were up to the challenge of handcrafting almost every detail incorporated into their celebration! This included everything from the fun teepee they used as a ceremony backdrop, to the geometric eucalyptus tree mobiles and rustic farm tables decorating their reception, and so many lovely elements in between…

Seriously, this modern + minimal teepee, made from wood + knotted muslin, is so amazing, right?! I want to make one for Sienna! :)

The pretty floral aisle was comprised of bright bougainvillea petals, gathered from around the property by family members. Such a fun way to incorporate your surroundings into your ceremony…

And I’m so crazy about Alana’s vibrant bouquet, featuring queen protea — one of my faves!

From Pacific Weddings editor, Shaunna Nygren, Guests took a seat at long family-style tables adorned in delicate lace runners, ornate oil lanterns and salvaged glass bottles for authentic Mexican cuisine presented by La Cosecha. In a true labor of love, the mother-of-the-groom made 300 vegetarian tamales, while the bride’s aunts contributed their famous pulled chicken salad with a sweet cilantro dressing.

But before the guests could dine, the newlyweds offered up a fun game to determine which table would savor their meal first. Kyle and Alana challenged a volunteer from each table to a dance-off to James Brown’s “Get Up Offa That Thing” to the crowd’s delight. “It was the most hilarious moment of the entire party!” exclaims Alana.
