Here at GWS, we’ve seen quite a number of INCREDIBLE elopements…and they just seem to get better and better. With so many awe-inspiring locations to choose from (see our list here!), it can be a tough decision to make: where, oh where in the world could we say our vows? Well, have you considered the possibility of having your nuptials at the base of a waterfall?
Holly Louwerse, the photographer of today’s editorial, grew up in Clearwater BC, which is the gateway to Wells Gray Park and home of the Helmcken Fals—Canada’s 4th tallest waterfall. She’s viewed the falls from a platform above many times, and tells us: It’s always spectacular. However, I have always found that to really show the size and magnitude of the falls having a person below really helps! I love epic portraits for showcasing the beautiful scenery but I knew this location needed something special.
Want to see what adventuring to this location might be like? Let’s take a peek!
Setting the overall mood for the day—an intimate + moody walk through the woods—Claire Hanna Design created this charming invitation suite.
An Intimate Dinner Before the Adventure
The overall style for this editorial was moody + bold: deep navy, emerald green, rich burgundy and gold accents.
The use of geometric shapes intertwined with foliage mimicked the basalt column cliffs that surround Helmcken Falls.
If you’re having the day in the woods—why not create a cake that fits the environment? That’s exactly what Cocoa Dot Cakes did here!
Into the Woods
Hello, sultry two-piece gown by Calla Blanche from Viva Bridal Boutique!
The Falls
One of my favorite moments of the day was after a bit of a mission getting to the base of the falls, and as we turned the corner to suddenly see the falls and being hit with the immediate thundering sound, Chris and Nicky’s face just lite up with excitement and from here on the giggles were uncontrollable.
As we wondered around the grassy slope by the base, looking up at the raw beauty around us, and seeing the droplets of waterfall mist build up on the flowers it’s pretty hard not to be awestruck.
Holly shares: My second favorite moment was as we were mid-hike out, Jordan (one of our rope masters/sherpas) busted out fresh tea, along with peanut butter and apples…it was so unexpected + absolutely lovely!
Note: If you’re going for a hike/eloping somewhere that requires a bit of a trek, little snacks and stopping for tea really allows you to pause, drink in the moment, and embrace it all. Plus, who doesn’t like a sweet treat?
How stunning is that textured + moody bouquet Ask Dee Florals created? It’s so striking against all the deep blues of the falls!
WOW. Just WOW.
One thing you need to be prepared for: the mist! But don’t worry—it makes for EPIC photos!
See what we mean!! GORGEOUS.
If you're considering eloping somewhere spectacular, try to go somewhere that is unique and not crowded. It may not be the iconic spot you have seen all over Instagram, but going somewhere that you not battling parking or seas of selfie sticks is very much worth it. Chat with your photographer about location ideas as they all have always-growing "dream shoot" lists of perfect places for cliffside intimate weddings, adventurous hike elopements, helicopter assisted vows, and stunning portraits.
So, what do you think about an adventure of a lifetime with your love?

WOOOOOOOWWWWW!!!
Those are incredible wedding photos!!!
But, as an aside, after getting married almost 27 years ago with only 100 people at our wedding, I would definitely ELOPE instead of doing a planned wedding. The stress and expense wasn’t worth it. My wife agrees. And I see it in the faces of all the brides and grooms I marry.
Such incredible wedding photos…. Thinking about hiring this photographer now lol
I am so excited to get married to the love of my life in one of the cutest chapels in Vegas!!! It will be a really modern wedding with a live camera filming and spreading the word around the world!!!
The place is called Paradise Wedding Chapel (https://www.paradiseweddingchapel.com/)
And it is beautiful!!!
