The first Christmas gift that Richie ever got for Katie? Tickets to a music festival! These two newlyweds are huge live music lovers and can’t get enough of free spirit festival vibes, so they used music as the primary inspiration for their waterfront Jersey City wedding day at Battello.
“We didn’t want there to be a single cookie cutter aspect of the day,” say Katie + Richie. Each element was carefully considered and full of significance, from the music notes on their signage to the specific vinyl records they used as a guestbook to all of the lovely lavender details (the bride’s favorite color). These thoughtful touches and the fun-filled music festival energy made this wedding an unforgettable boho blowout party with majestic views of Manhattan just across the Hudson River.
So glad Brenna Marie Photography was there to capture it all. Even the LIVE tattoo artist at the reception!!
Let’s take a look!
Katie designed and printed all of the day’s vibrant, retro paper goods and signage on Zazzle!
Loving Katie’s rosy vintage-inspired engagement ring from Heidi Gibson.
Susanna from MG Hair and Makeup created this multi-braid baby’s-breath-filled boho masterpiece of a half-up half-down do as well as Katie’s peachy, soft glam makeup look.
The First Look
Katie didn’t go into her dress hunt dead-set on an unrealistic tear-filled “yes” moment. Her goal was to keep the process low-key and find a dress that was comfortable, that was great for a night full of dancing, and that felt like her. After a first round of try-ons with Grace Loves Lace and Anthropologie, she picked a top two, took a beat, and then narrowed it down to the BHLDN Odalis Cape-Sleeve Deep-V Lace Wedding Gown from Anthropologie Weddings. We’re loving the all-over lace and plunge neckline!
Obsessed with the boho drama of those lace cape sleeves!!
Karma Floral & Event Design was in charge of all of the day’s flowers including this super-textured bridal bouquet full of lavender accents and pops of bright reds.
Richie’s green wedding suit came from All About Suit. Really digging his no tie look!
Katie had her dress altered by Ally’s Bridal to create that fully open back silhouette.
We love to see pups included in the day! Especially when it means a floral dog collar!!
Katie’s bridal party rocked dresses from Azazie in a perfect mix of pastels and jewel tones.

Katie + Richie included chairs with photos and special mementos as touching tributes to important figures in their lives who are no longer with us.

Katie + Richie’s groomsmen wore a gray-suits-green-shirt combo from Generation Tux.
Processional: "Missing Piece" by Vance Joy + "Love You For a Long Time" by Maggie Rogers + "I Do" by Fleetwood Mac
Recessional: "Forever, Always" by Judah and the Lion
First Dance: "Heaven" by Kane Brown + "Glad You Exist" by Dan + Shay + "First Time Feeling" by Ripe (mashup)
Some thoughts on the ceremony from Kaite: “It’s such a blur but we had our officiant announce a ‘social media moment’ once I got to the aisle. We then looked out at our guests and lived in the moment and they got a chance to take photos without getting in the way of the ceremony.”

Is there anything more romantic than NYC twinkling in the background??
From Katie: "Two things. First, when you're ready to start planning, come up with the three things that you and your partner are most excited about. For us, that was food/drink, music and experience. Basically, we wanted our guests to be raving about the food, be on the dance floor the whole time and to feel like they attended an EVENT. Anything else was extra so that was where we saved money. For instance, I designed our stationery and printed it via Zazzle because we didn't feel the need to spend money on an extravagant design since it wasn't related to our top three. (Side note: We didn't do favors because truly no one cares about favors...save yourself the money.)
Second, your wedding is exactly that...YOUR wedding. Everyone wants to give advice and input and it's hard to push back but, at the end of the day, it's about you and your spouse and how you want to celebrate your life together. We were very lucky that our parents didn't ask for very much but there were a couple things we conceded on because they weren't details that really mattered to us. We definitely would have pushed back if they messed with our vision of that top three."
Katie’s known for bringing her instant camera everywhere she goes, so they had to include the FujiFilm Instax Mini in Light Blue so guests could snap some shots of the celebration analog-style. And! The records Katie + Richie chose to have people sign? Their favorites, of course!
Some reception-related wisdom from Katie + Richie: “Get away for a moment during the reception, just the two of you, and look out at your guests and the party. It goes by so fast, but we loved being able to look out over it all and say, ‘We did this.'”
Would this music-inspired wedding be complete without a super cool hanging record installation for the seating chart!?
Katie + Richie prepared for their first dance with lessons from Jersey City Ballroom.
Love this action shot from Katie’s first dance with her dad! Plus, you can sneak a peek of Katie’s Betsey Johnson rhinestone boots!

Love this groomsman bringing the Guy Fieri action!
We’ve seen some cute custom temporary tattoo situations at wedding receptions before, but how about REAL tattoos!!
Tattoo artist Country Reba set up shop in the midst of all the action to ink Katie + Richie’s guests!!
We got tattoos at our wedding! We really wanted something special and have always talked about getting matching tattoos one day. So we decided to get them at our wedding! It was actually way more popular than we expected. The artist actually ran out of forms and nearly our entire wedding party got a tattoo that day. We also had an outstanding flower man who took his role very seriously, our dog was our ring bearer and our first dance and Katie's dance with her dad were pretty unique.
We LOVE these matching sea turtles!! (AND Katie’s sparkly neutral wedding nails from Nails by Maki! Take a look at the rundown of our fave wedding nails designs and ideas if you’re looking for some mani-related inspo.)
Congratulations, Katie + Richie, on your colorful, festival-inspired day!! All of us at GWS wish you a marriage full of music!
