Um, NEW TREND ALERT 🚨❤️🔥
We’re always on the hunt for something in wedding design that feels impactful, inventive, and truly new. When we saw this Old Hollywood inspired wedding shoot, our jaws dropped. And yours will too.
There’s one thing in particular that planners + event designers from Miinori + Co. and the team behind this wedding editorial at The Ruins in Seattle did that we can’t stop thinking about, and it’s the way they used projections.
Large-scale projected images made the whole space feel like a moment stolen from an old black + white film or a sneaky, romantic moment in the flickering light behind a giant drive-in movie screen. Stills from classic scenes featuring Golden Age Hollywood stars graced the rippling, drapey fabric that adorned the walls. It was atmospheric, it was immersive, it was SO original. And – best part – if you’ve got the right space for it, all you need to achieve these romantic, high-drama vibes? A projector! (and yes, this is the exact projector this team used)
“It blurred the line between wedding and art installation. We loved the idea of stills from a classic romance movie as the backdrop,” says Zasha of Miinori + Co., who brought this project (titled “Love on the Brain”) to life using a timeless black + white color world that featured pops of rich, fiery red + amber.
“The inspiration for ‘Love on the Brain’ came from the idea that love is dramatic and artful,” Zasha explains.“We wanted the space to feel like stepping into a film scene with moody lighting, layered textures, vintage projections, and bold fashion-forward styling.”
In addition to the projection elements we’re so beyond-obsessed with, the shoot featured custom vinyl installations of romantic phrases in vintage fonts on the floors, a flawless combo of nostalgic and minimalist-modern vibes, and some killer fashion moments, too. Photos from Andrew Parsons, Super 8 videography from Jen Patterson Photo, and film photography by Alexandrae Photo captured it from all angles and in multiple media.
“The design leaned into Old Hollywood romance,” Zasha shares, “but interpreted through a modern, editorial lens.”
A Silver Screen Love Story

Both the dreamy draping + the creative vinyl floor text were the work of Bohemian Basement.

This sophisticated, glam Old-Hollywood-starlet-worthy high neck wedding dress look came from Samila Bridal + Formal.

“We experimented with film but felt the photos fit this particular design best,” Zasha says of this mind-blowing, floor-to-ceiling, b+w movie still situation.
How fun is this idea: “As we shared on social media, we had brides chime in that they were planning to use black and photos of their engagement pictures! It’s really amazing to see others put their own twist to it.”
GWS TIP: Here is the exact projector the team used if you want to recreate this for your day – this would be so fun for a rehearsal dinner as well!!

Florals from Manette Flower Co. brought sculptural, minimalist creativity to the tablescape in warm, vivid reds.

Rentals from Fig + Honey Rentals, Superior Event Rental, and HostedModern came together to create this moody, modern banquet vibe.

Mobile oyster bar SEA Shucked was on hand to give the shoot a coastal culinary flair 🦪

So simple. SO STUNNING. We are so eager to see how couples take this projection trend and make it their own. The possibilities are endless when a couple uses projections like these to elevate their own unique wedding aesthetic.

Gas Stationary went pure, clean, and asymmetrical with these minimal wedding invitations.
Perfect in Pearls
Pearly wedding heels we LOVE.

Bridal accessories for the editorial — like those silver pearl wedding earrings — came from Aviel.

Also, Michelle Wight perfected the chic + timeless look with this shimmer-glam wedding makeup and slick back low bun bridal hairstyle.

Oh my god — those custom etched champagne coupes!!

The shoot’s sophisticated tuxedos were from Suitsupply.

Minimalism and draping in ivory?? Love that wedding cake from Tifa Cake recreated the shoot’s decor + design elements in cake form!
