An “Overgrown Brownstone” Wedding Filled With Moody, Organic Romance At Brooklyn’s Wythe Hotel

Sophie + Kyle knew they wanted to tie the knot close to their home in Brooklyn, New York and their wedding vision started to take shape as soon as they chose the industrial yet romantic Wythe Hotel as their venue.

From there they found and fell in love with florist Tasha of BLOOM BLOOM. Her “overgrown brownstone” ideas for their epic floral installation ceremony backdrop resonated with Sophie + Kyle’s ideal aesthetic so much that it became the inspo for the tone of the entire event.

The couple worked with Let’s Get Together Events Co. to create a moody, organic day featuring quirky, asymmetrical details and thoughtful handmade favors. The day’s simplicity and romance celebrated the seven years Sophie + Kyle had already spent as a couple and the whole life together they have ahead of them.

We can’t get enough of this dreamy day and all of Sylvie the Camera’s perfect pics!

The floral creations that BLOOM BLOOM dreamed up for this wedding were a key part of the day’s organic vibes. Bride Sophie opted for a simple wedding dress to make sure this stunning bouquet was the star of her ceremony look.

Sophie’s loose, wavy down-do and soft glam makeup look were the work of White Rose Collective. We love the way they incorporated florals into the styling!

Sophie had dreams of changing looks at some point during the celebration but didn’t feel like splurging on multiple dresses, so she opted for this stunningly simple strapless gown from Halfpenny London—a brand known for their accessories. Keep your eyes peeled for her fun reception add ons later in the night…

Our Advice To Those Planning Now

We heard a lot of, “Just enjoy it! Soak it up!” but weren’t entirely sure how to make that happen. What helped was doing everything way ahead of time, even the little things. If you don’t have to worry about jotting down a toast or finding cufflinks the week of, you have more headspace to enjoy it all. (A lot of this was also made possible by our coordinators at The Get Together, especially Julie and Grace. They are magicians.)
And, incorporate family and friends! We had stepparents, roommates, bandmates, and more give seven pieces of advice during the ceremony, and had no idea what they were going to say until that moment. So many tears, both laughing and crying.
Finally: Take voice memos. We took a couple of minutes at the end of each day to record a short recap together on our phones. There are so many big and little moments that you want to remember that wouldn’t be captured otherwise.

Our Favorite Memory From The Wedding

From Sophie: Looking out during the ceremony and having everyone we love in one place. There were so many people we hadn't seen in years due to the pandemic, and this was the ultimate way to reunite. Also, my sister's "speech": a rousing rendition of The Talking Heads’ “Burning Down the House” with the chorus changed to “Sophie’s married to Kyle!”

From Kyle: Like Sophie said, having everyone there in person was surreal in all the best ways. We also got incredibly lucky and got married on the perfect late-summer, gorgeous New York night, where the city feels like it’s showing off. One of my favorite memories was Sophie and I throwing popcorn into each other’s mouths in lieu of the traditional cake cutting ceremony. Each of us caught the popcorn first try and our friends and family went nuts and we all cheered.

Congratulations, Sophie + Kyle, on your moody, organic, “overgrown brownstone” wedding!! Best wishes from GWS!
