If you are looking for a relaxing one-of-a-kind hotel to add to your next European trip, I highly recommend adding the Hotel Villa Hongg in the heart of Switzerland to your next itinerary. Why? Well did you see that pool photo above!? It seriously was the most magical pool I’ve ever been in (and if you are a long time reader, you might remember this amazing pool in the Amalfi Coast we visited a few years back – another amazing pool for sure if you are looking for magical hotels. :) The Art Nouveau-style villa on the Bürgenstock was built in 1905 and reopened in 2011 following a complete refurbishment that succeeded in preserving its historical charm. Perched high above Lake Lucerne and offering exclusive amenities, the Villa Honegg would make for a perfect honeymoon or anniversary trip.
You can fly into Zurich and take the train from Zurich to Lucerne. Then I would suggest a cab to the Hotel. It’s about a 30 minute ride. You can also rent a car and drive from Zurich – but you won’t need a car here, so I wouldn’t recommend that unless you plan to drive somewhere after this stay. The hotel also offers a complimentary shuttle from the Ennetbürgen Post bus stop if you want to take the train to the bus station.
How Long To Stay
I would recommend at least 3 nights. That gives you one day to hike and explore the mountains, and one day to enjoy the spa and relax by the pool. Of course I don’t think you’ll be disappointed by more nights, but I think that would be a great amount of time. We paired this hotel with 2 nights in Zurich which gives you a great mix of two very different parts of Switzerland.
It’s so pretty here it just doesn’t even look real!! That is all we kept saying!!
The hotel has cows wondering the hills….you will hear their bells at all hours of the day :)
I had seen this pool on Instagram and it was on my bucket list…..and it did not disappoint!!! It offers the most AMAZING VIEWS!! And even though it was a bit chilly out – in the low 60’s – the pool is heated and so refreshing…
…and this is the view from the pool!!! Amazing….
My Favorite Hike EVER!
We spent 2 amazing nights here. The day we arrived, it was rainy and overcast. We were still able to use the pool that first night since it was heated (I love heated pools!!). On our first morning there, we woke up to some clouds, but no rain!! We were very excited since it was supposed to rain, so we got very lucky!! (If it rains while you are here, they have an indoor movie theater and the restaurant has some pretty amazing food, so no worries if you do have rain!).
We decided to take the high path behind the hotel – which offers some INSANE views of Lake Lucerne and the town of Lucerne itself. I’m SO GLAD we did this hike. It was probably my favorite hike ever!! You start up a pretty steep hill behind the hotel where you walk through a meadow with a bunch of Swiss cows. :) The walk takes about 3 hours total – although you can definitely add on to make it longer. Some of the snaps along the trail…
As Switzerland was never on my list of places I wanted to go, I hope this post changes your mind if you didn’t have it on your list! It was one of the prettiest places I’ve been…we kept saying how the mountains looked like a movie set! They were SO GREEN!! Anyone else have Switzerland on their travel plans this year?
