Listen: we know how easy it is to get swept up in the chaos of wedding planning. There are so many decisions to make. So many options and opinions to consider. Vendors. Venues. Family expectations. Next thing you know, you’re doing something HUGE when maybe you started this whole planning thing wanting to keep it simple.
Maricel + Jon are living proof that gathering the people you love at your favorite neighborhood spot can ABSOLUTELY be the move. These two live in Brooklyn NY, and a vital part of being a New Yorker is having a go-to place to get a slice of pizza. Roberta’s Pizza in Bushwick is that place for Maricel + Jon. The couple took over the restaurant’s charming back courtyard and filled it with friends and family. With help from Rose Ahn Events they planned a super special celebration in a really familiar spot, and now Roberta’s is full of wedding day memories they can revisit any time they feel like grabbing a slice!
Photographer Stephanie Naru captured the magic of Maricel + Jon’s intimate “I do’s” and the way they transformed their local fave for the festivities!

“I’ve always loved Cecile Bahnsen but never had the opportunity to purchase their pieces,” says bride Maricel. What better occasion than your wedding to finally go for your dream designer?! Maricel loved that her wedding dress’s relaxed silhouette meant staying comfy all day long. “Most importantly,” Maricel says “I genuinely felt myself in the dress.” We love the urban boho vibe of the multi-fabric paneling!

Loving all this lush greenery? Yeah, us too. Outside Space NYC packed the venue with hearty potted plants to create a super-leafy wedding day garden with a tropical flair.

That statement necklace!! We’re in love. Take a look at this one from Anthropologie Bridal if you’re digging the pearly choker vibe. Also, don’t miss Maricel’s super-hip Japanese-inspired Tabi Mary-Janes in black by Maison Marigela. Grab your own green pair here!!
The Ceremony

We love all the bright pinks in Maricel’s tropical bouquet!!

Our Favorite Memory From The Wedding From Maricel: "Walking down the aisle once we officially said our vows. Seeing everyone’s benevolent smiles and ecstatic cheers made me feel grateful for everything. The other memorable moment was the ceremony- having my good friend Kelsey officiate us made all the more special."

From the bride: “We wanted our wedding to feel true to us and take away the “traditional” elements that didn’t mean much to us.”

It. Has. POCKETS!!

We can’t get enough of Maricel’s chic shoulder-length veil. Check out the Britt Veil from Anthropologie Weddings if you’re digging the vibe or take a look at our fave veils for every bridal style if you’re still deciding which length might be the right fit for you.

Maricel’s curly bob is the work of stylist Yui Yoshida, and her soft, glowy makeup is by Kathy Kho.

The Reception

Can’t go wrong with simple, modern reception seating signage.

How great are these long bench-seat banquet tables full of greenery!

Using potted plants as decor like Maricel + Jon did instead of opting for fresh cut flowers is one of THE best ways to keep your wedding’s ecological footprint (and budget!!) small! That’s why it’s one of our favorite ideas for planning a sustainable wedding.

No denying the laid-back elegance of an all-white table linen look!
