Foggy Australian Wedding with Bright Whites + Baby Blues

Rustic Modern Australian Wedding

Like a sweet summer rain, today’s wedding is fresh in the sweetest way! Patty + Demi are an Australian couple who were together for 9 years before he proposed on a rainy day in Central Park. She had no idea it was coming! In a funny twist, the rain fell sporadically through the wedding day, as well—but it was no big deal to these two. In fact, we think the overcast skies add a romantic aesthetic that’s hard to beat. Demi styled the day herself and we’ll let her fill in the details!

My best friend Emily and I have an Australian event styling business, Harper Arrow. When I got engaged I knew we would be styling the day. (How hard could it be right?!) I was actually so happy that I made this decision as the setup was really relaxing. I didn’t want to make the setup too tedious, as I also wanted to enjoy the day being a bride with my best friends getting ready. At one stage, I almost forgot it was me who was getting married!

Moments By Frankie was on hand to capture the details, rain or shine. Let’s have a look!

The Bespoke Wedding Dress

WOW.

When it came to designing my dress I was inspired by embellished 3D florals so I knew that is what I wanted. The question was, where to get it from? So one day, my mum and I decided to take a trip to my dressmaker’s house. She’d made my year 12 formal dress ten years prior. We had lost her contact details, so thought we would try our luck by showing up. I was over the moon when she agreed to make it, although a little scared for the challenge I had given her. Let’s just say it took 3 months straight, 150 handmade flowers and numb fingers by the end of it. I could not be more grateful for what she accomplished for me, it really was my dream dress.

Our Favorite Memory From The Wedding

There were so many amazing moments throughout the day, but I would have to say my favourite memories would have to be walking down the aisle & seeing Patty's reaction. We aren't very emotional/PDA type of people but seeing him tear up was something special. Our beautiful celebrant mentioned my great grandmother, who Patty was fortunate enough to meet during our dating days. She is unfortunately no longer with us, but it really cemented that we were starting a new life & family together & she got to meet my future husband. And of course, during dinner when we should all be behaving, the band decided to play "Wonderwall" by Oasis and the room broke out into song. It was really incredible to see everyone swaying, one guest even had his steak on his fork in the air. So many feel good moments!

The Reception

Rustic Modern Australian Wedding

P + D put out a colorful assortment of rugs and chairs for guests to relax, which were utilized in full once the rain subsided!

wooden signage

Patty is a carpenter and made this sweet arch for Demi a week prior to the wedding day.

So clean and beautiful! P + D chose Summergrove Estate for it’s amazing views of both the hinterland and ocean, and it’s wet weather options! The lovely indoor reception was punctuated by florals from Alstonville Florist.

Demi made a personalized seating chart with polaroid photos of each guest!

We had a large floral installation above the bridal table, a mini one in front of the bride + groom, 30 vases lining the tables, 4 mini hanging arrangements, and greenery garlands for the chapel. During the planning I got some great advice, to put our money where what we felt was the most important to us. Flowers were high on the list!

wedding favors

P + D’s place cards had a duel purpose, acting as favors for the day, as well! Demi worked with a homewares store to create thes cute personalized leather key rings.

Our Advice To Those Planning Now

Make sure you sit down & write a budget before you book anything. While this sounds SUPER boring, it can be very helpful it guiding you on what type of wedding to have. Get quotes, check Instagram & do your research—prioritise what you need & what is an added bonus. Also don't compare what you want to Pinterest, this can be a useful tool to get an idea, but at the end of the day it is your wedding—do it how you want. At some stage it may become overwhelming, don't let it get to you. There is a reason you are planning this special day - to marry your best friend. Make sure you talk to them about it, even if they aren't the most "design" inclined, they are still a pillar of strength & will back you up. Trust me, as soon as you walk towards them on the day you will never remember "that time that you could only get peach coloured napkins when Pinterest told you to have apricot."
