The entryway: This rust block print pumpkin
Every home needs one fall piece that says hello before anyone takes their coat off, and Made Market Co’s Rust Block Print Pumpkin is mine. It’s soft cotton in a vintage-feeling floral block print, warm rust on cream, with a wood-look stem. At 8.5 inches across, it holds its own on an entry table or console, and it moves just as easily to a living room shelf.
Made Market Co is a mother-daughter shop run by Sue and Jordan, who were raised on a family farm in Kansas and are going on 10 years on Etsy. Their motto is a little heart and a lot of hustle, and you can feel it in the details.
The thing I love most: it never softens, never rots, and goes straight into the storage bin in December to come back out next September. This is the easiest way I know to make a corner of your home feel like fall in about 30 seconds.
The living room: This Hello Fall candle
If pumpkin spice has worn you down by October, this is the fall candle to know. Sweet Water Decor’s Hello Fall candle opens on hot cider, warms into cinnamon and clove, and settles on apple and nutmeg. It smells like the good part of a farm stand, not a latte.
Melissa Horvath started Sweet Water Decor in her Pittsburgh basement in 2014. Today it’s a team of more than 35 that has sold over two million candles, and every one is still poured in their own Pittsburgh factory, with made-in-USA soy wax and cotton wicks. Each 9-ounce amber jar burns for 40-plus hours. The shop was already a favorite of mine: my October coffee goes in their ghost mug. So when it came time to pick a fall candle, I went straight back.
The dinner table: Mini Pumpkin candle favors
This is the piece that made the whole table click. OlivMee’s pumpkin candle set is 16 mini soy pumpkins, each about the size of a walnut, ribbed like the real thing. How to set the fall dinner table
Start with a linen runner and cluster the mini pumpkin candles down the center in odd numbers, then set one at each plate like a place card. Add height with a few taper candles and let the colors repeat: rust in the napkins, cream in the plates, the soft oranges of the pumpkins carrying it through. Fall home decor FAQ
Order by early October for Halloween or Friendsgiving dinners, and early November for Thanksgiving. Handmade shops pour and sew in small batches, and processing times stretch as the season fills up. All three pieces here were arriving within about a week when I ordered.
Unscented on the table, scented everywhere else. Fragrance competes with the food and can overwhelm guests seated close to it. Light a scented candle in the entry or kitchen an hour before guests arrive, and keep the table candles unscented.
Plan one per guest plus six to eight for the center of the table. For a dinner of eight, one set of 16 covers both.
