In the glimmering Tyrrhenian Sea and just off the coast of Tuscany you’ll find the island of Pianosa. Almost entirely uninhabited with the exception of wildlife, nature, a handful of humans (literally: Wikipedia claims the island has a population of 10!) and ghosts of the past, the island is full of history. Pianosa was once home to ancient Romans, pirates, mafia bosses, and over 600 convicts before the penitentiary officially closed in 1998. All who remains are former prison guards who now tend the gardens and ancient buildings…and that, dear friends, is the ancient + mysterious island where we find ourselves today!
Chiara from Weddings in Tuscany designed the day and tells us: I fell in love with Pianosa Island last summer when I was there for a short break. I promised myself I’d come back, this time with a group of talented vendors to style a shoot (the island is a paradise for weddings)! Pianosa is a peaceful place of unfettered beauty. For the design style, we created a day as simple and natural as the environment. We used unfinished or worn materials, implementing designs that are clearly inspired by raw, natural elements and earthy tones.
Let’s venture on, shall we? Images from Nicole Colwell tell the story…
Wow, what a romantic invitation suite with calligraphy by Every Little Letter – like a forgotten love letter!
SO gorgeous! Just think of all the history of these buildings…incredible!
The groom looked effortlessly cool in muted tones.
Can you even believe this is real?!
The back of this ethereal Barone Rosso Sposa gown is just dreamy!
Love those seaside colors and soft linens, the perfect pairing to the island’s natural beauty.
SO inspiring! We think Pianosa would be an incredible location for an elopement or intimate vow renewal. A gorgeous, uninhabited island and just the two of you? Cue the romance!
Emotional Movie created a mysterious and provoking film to coincide with this editorial inspired by the poem “Tonight I Can Write The Saddest Lines” of Pablo Neruda. (Note: This film is mature and may not be suitable for all viewers.)
