Shalon + Christine spent their very first date falling in love over lattes ☕️. The rest, as they say, is history, and now, two years after getting married, the couple is expecting their first kiddo! With that very first coffee date in mind, the moms-to-be knew that an impossibly cute coffee-themed “Baby Is Brewing” shower was in order.
“It was more than just a baby shower,” Alex of Earth & Events says about this very special day. “It was a testament to the longevity of love, community, and the joy of new beginnings.”
The Earth & Events team transformed Barcelona-inspired cafe Tarocco of West Berkeley, CA into a chic + contemporary coffee house full of dreamy decor, adorable details and lots of heart. Vintage jazz was playing softly in the background and the smell of coffee filled the air.
Shalon + Christine love to host, so a warm, inviting environment full of delicious food, drink, and immaculate vibes was essential. “Grounded In Love” was a recurring motif throughout—an adorable coffee grounds pun as well as a testament to the love surrounding Shalon + Christine’s baby-on-the-way.

Brewing Up a Baby Shower!
Shalon + Christine’s “Baby is Brewing” theme is one of the most clever baby shower ideas we’ve come across! We’re obsessed with the day’s “bespoke coffee house ambiance.” And who doesn’t love a latte!?

How precious are those teddy bear drink stirrers and custom drink tags?! Love that they went with an earthy ivory + coffee-tone color world for the whole event.
If you’re going to offer creative signature coffee concoctions, why not have a gorgeous custom engraved stone slab coffee menu to help your guests choose! Shalon + Christine’s featured favorites included their takes on an affogato, a latte, and hot chocolate.
A Beautiful Brunch
“The style of the event was influenced by Scandinavian neutral aesthetics,” remembers Alex of Earth & Events, “evoking a sense of simplicity, warmth, and sophistication.”
Those gorgeous curve-back raw wood chairs? Custom made by Found Rental Co. to match the cozy + contemporary vibe of the event!
Loving those earthy neutral taper candles against the organic ivory table linens.
Snag some gold flatware, ribbed champagne coupes, and woven cane-wrapped tumblers to recreate the upscale, minimalist feel of these modern + organic table settings.
The scattered coffee bean decor *might* just be our favorite element of the day’s decor. It must have smelled amazing, too!
Ikebana-style floral arrangements in stone bowls + vases added a contemporary botanical whimsy to the vibe.
“The couple wanted the baby shower to feel uniquely tailored to them,” says Alex. “As such, we created a custom brand strategy for the event as if it was their own family owned coffee shop. It was a no brainer that the party was centered around “Keener Coffee Co.” as an ode to the couple’s last name.”
They even had a little “Keener Coffee Co.” punch card!
Every little coffee-centric detail was considered and customized down to these personalized paper coffee cups!
“The traditional baby shower games were reimagined with crossword puzzles and a delightful scavenger hunt to find baby socks,” Alex says, “which added a touch of introspection and creativity to the festivities.”

Guests were treated to a menu of yummy + creative brunch fare such as a live fresh donut bar, mini chicken and waffles, and yogurt parfaits in super cute silver coupe cups.
Alex said it best when she reflected that Shalon + Christine’s stunning shower was an opportunity to “celebrate love in all its forms and embrace the beauty of storytelling in event planning.”
We are so blown away by every drink’s presentation! Those bows made from coffee-colored satin ribbon made for the perfect finishing touch.
