Wanting to push away from the soft blushes and creamy tones, Nicole + Zach spiced things up for their vows at Sunstone Villa in Santa Ynez (also featured in our Top 26 Coolest Places to Get Married), designed by Amazing Days Events. Nicole told her florist, Precious & Blooming, to go wild with texture and deep rich colors, keeping in mind organic shapes and stylings.
Nicole shares: Every time someone asked me what I wanted for my wedding, I said I just want it to be whimsical. That’s when the idea of the lighting structure came in to motion… I wanted guests to feel incapsulated but this magical world we were creating without, while still highlighting the amazing views of the mountains.
It was all about bringing those whimsical, bohemian vibes to this European-inspired winery. Let’s take a look at how it was done in the snaps by Jana Williams!
The Wedding Party
I wanted all the ladies to feel comfortable during the getting ready process in the morning, so I had my friend — who has a custom robe company Mason Grey — make velvet robes with pearl fringe detail. She also offered to make something completely custom for me and we found a hand-embroidered lace fabric that she turned into a beautiful robe.
As a creative producer in the fashion industry, Nicole was VERY particular about her dress. She shares: I had been watching this designer, Berta and knew I must try on her dresses. I found out she was doing a trunk show in Beverly Hills. I tried on 4 dresses that day — all Berta — and found the one, floral detail and all.
Once the dress was done it was time to find something special for my bridesmaids, I found myself shopping at Bloomingdale’s one day and stumbled upon the perfect complement to my dress… I ended up leaving with 9 of them that day! [unfortunately the dresses are no longer available] My sister/MOH ended up finishing off the bridal party with a floral embroidered dress from Marchesa.
It was all about the bespoke burgundy suit for Zach — majors props to Robert Stanley Bespoke.
The Ceremony Space
Would you take a look at all those ghost chairs + that glorious pampas grass?! HEART EYES for days! P.S. Dig the texture of pampas grass as much as us? We’ve put this list together of 21 unique ways to incorporate it into your wedding!
My favorite part of the day was our vows. I loved that even though there were 200 people in the crowd I didn’t see any of them — it felt as if Zach + I were the only people there. Looking into the eyes of the person you’re marrying as you read some of the most intimate words you have ever expressed is a feeling I wish I could relive every day. We both ended our vows with “I love you + I like you,” which hold significantly different meanings to us, but it was the perfect way to close up the ceremony.
Talk about STYLIN’! We’ve pulled several pieces to create a similar look:

Cocktail Hour in the Vineyard
Oh, YES PLEASE! Bring on the cheese + wine…
Aren’t floral ice cubes fun? They’re really not that difficult to make, either!
The Escort Cards
SO PRETTY! We’re big fans of doing something unique for your escort cards and can’t help but stare at these gorgeous watercolor ones Lazy Creative Designs created.
The Outdoor Reception
The reception was held under hundreds of string lights… can you imagine how magical this looked once the sun went down?
Rustic wooden chairs and pops of burgundy + blush are a winning combo in our book!
Aren’t the florals on that cake magnificent? Talk about regal!!
The Newlyweds
I loved the idea of incorporating an open-air teepee that guests could lounge under. I didn’t want to lose the fact that we were at a winery, so we brought in a lot of rustic wood elements for the reception.
Congratulations, Nicole + Zachary!! Cheese to the both of you.
