Did you happen to catch Part 1 of this Brilliantly Bold + Colorful California wedding this morning? If not, pop on over there… and then come back to see the whimsical reception! Mary + Mike are ever the color enthusiasts, have attended countless concerts together, and really dig the soulful sunshine of their home in California. So, when it came to planning their wedding, Shindig Chic incorporated all of those elements (with the help of expert planner, Samantha Dapper).
Earlier, we saw tons of bold hues strewn about the ceremony space, and an array of stunning florals… well folks, their reception is no different! Brimming with pom poms + streamers, DIY accents galore, and funky details, we’re sure this whimsical day will give you a major boost of (colorful) inspiration.
Let’s proceed to Mike + Mary’s party and see all the fun captured by Alyssa Marie Photography (and edited by Mary Costa Photography!):
Easily one of the most fun + colorful bouquets we’ve EVER seen! Definitely fit for a peony lover.
Step Into the Reception
If you caught Mike’s surprise proposal to Mary (at her 30th birthday, no less!), you saw an EPIC balloon installation from Wild Child Party. Well, WCP was back at it for their big day!
Mary dreamt of having a teal VW van at the wedding from the get-go, and Samantha Dapper made this dream a reality when she discovered Porty!
Mike and I love Game of Thrones and couldn’t resist naming the cocktails after things in the show… although we doubt “Mother of Dragons” will catch on anytime soon in place of a Moscow Mule.
The Mixtape Escort Cards
Tim, Angelena’s partner, built all of the custom signs, as well as the cassette tape backdrop and the wooden beams for the yarn hanging. Since M+M are avid concert goers, it only made sense to incorporate a ton of musical elements into their day!
The Colorful Tablescape
The outdoor reception dinner took place under the blooming jacaranda trees…
Mike + Mary LOVE music (their first date was a concert!), so they had each table named after a venue where they’d seen a show together. Megan Roy took this idea and ran with it, illustrating the COOLEST cards for each table. P.S. She now sells the prints if you want to snag your own!
Fun DIY alert: Mary + her mom I dip-dyed the table napkin fabric together, back home in New Hampshire. Her mom then cut + sewed the final products.
Aren’t those splashes of color positively stunning in this outdoor setting?

Coffee Cup Favors
How incredible is that pom pom backdrop for the favor table?! We love how the touches of turquoise really make the diner mug favors pop! Erin Elyse Long is the crafty maven responsible for this backdrop, the heart piñata, and the giant florals seen in M+M’s engagement session in the poppy field!
The diner mugs were illustrated by Megan Roy and manufactured by The Created Co, a local California company. Mike and Mary collect diner mugs from all of their travels and thought a special mug from their wedding would be the perfect gift for the guests!
Mary: The whole thing was truly the BEST DAY EVER. There’s nothing like having so many of your loved ones gathered in one place to celebrate and support your marriage. That said, I absolutely loved our grand entrance. We were totally shocked to see guests holding giant prints of our faces, which was a hilarious surprise from my bridesmaid, Jessica. I also loved when Mike serenaded me with My Morning Jacket’s song, “Wonderful, The Way I Feel.”
Mike: Dancing!! Music plays a very important role in both of our lives and I loved spending the night on the dance floor with everyone. We closed out the night with “Hey Jude” and it was the cherry on top of an unforgettable day.
The Sweet Treats
How fun are these giant florals on the cake table? Check out this DIY to make your own: here.
A funfetti drip cake from Half Baked Co?! YES, YES, YES.
The Newlyweds
We wanted our wedding to feel like a backyard party, and McCormick Home Ranch in Camarillo provided the perfect setting. Sally, the owner, maintains the gardens beautifully, and there were so many different photo ops (crucial!).
McCormick also allows you to bring in a catering company of your choosing, you can BYOB, and they have full rentals available. The venue is surrounded by jacaranda trees, which just happened to be in full bloom on our date. It was a magical place!
To many incredible, wild + colorful adventures — congratulations, Mary + Mike!!
