Alexandra + Thomas (guitarist and producer for the Dap-Kings) are such a cool duo and exude so much style, so of course their rad Catskills barn wedding was one for the books! With music being key for these two, it was one detail that helped set a fun tone for the whole celebration. Their guest list included almost every musician affiliated with Daptone Records in Brooklyn + the music for the evening was rare soul and funk 45s being spun by various friends + DJs in attendance. Alexandra + her mom were the brains behind the design + they went with a pretty rustic, bohemian feel for the farmstead setting. Perfect inspiration for fellow DIY brides! Let’s hear a bit more about the day from the beautiful bride:
We spent a lot of time in the Catskill region of upstate New York over the past few years and it really became a special place for us. We just couldn’t imagine getting married anywhere else. We wanted our wedding to capture the natural beauty and serenity of the area which is why we chose the Maple Shade Farm. For decor and flowers I wanted a vintage/bohemian look with a romantic and rustic feel. Having our loved ones, great music, and delicious food in the Catskill setting really made our wedding the magical and beautiful day that it was.
Thanks so much to Lev Kuperman Photography for the gorgeous photos and big congrats to Alexandra + Thomas!
We’re loving the bridesmaids’ blush pink BHLDN dresses!
Such great portraits of these two captured by Lev :)

Processional: The Makings of You – Curtis Mayfield (Performed love by Joey Crispiano + Alex Chakour)
Recessional: You Send Me – Sam Cooke (Sung live by Naomi Shelton)
First Dance: I Only Have Eyes for You – The Flamingos (Sung live by Bill Schalda)
The moment after we were married, our officiant Naomi Shelton, who is also an amazing gospel singer, tied our hands together and sang Sam Cooke's "you send me". We were supposed to walk back down the aisle but she just held our hands and sang the entire song. It was just beautiful, I'll remember that moment forever.
Alexandra and her mom worked with a few of their talented vendors (Lydia Palmer from Morris Tent Rentals + floral designer, Gail Peachin) to pull off such a fun reception setting! We love the vintage, romantic feel.
It's so easy to get caught up in the stress of planning a wedding, but just always remember that your wedding day is about the celebration of your love for one another. It will be one of the most joyous and beautiful of days no matter what.
