Vedeline + Kalvin’s chic and minimalistic wedding brought simplicity and rich color to The Lane in San Diego, California. The venue’s concrete and glass architectural details were the perfect backdrop for the sleek and modern wedding day aesthetic Vedeline + Kalvin were aiming for.
“We were really drawn to a minimalistic design that provided lots of light and air,” says the couple. And with the help of coordinators from Aficial Events they gathered friends and family together to celebrate their love surrounded by pops of vibrant hues that contrasted with and complimented the ultra-modern space.
Thank goodness photographer Kellie Viagem was there snapping all these gorgeous photos so we can take a peek at Vedeline + Kalvin’s colorful big day!!
Wabi Sabi

“Our minimalist design and approach was in part inspired by our admiration of Wabi Sabi—to accept what is now, to stay in the moment, and to appreciate the transient stages of everyday life,” say Vedeline + Kalvin.
In Japanese aesthetics, Wabi Sabi is the principle of embracing the imperfection and impermanence of life and nature. “We symbolized this by incorporating a Kintsugi ceremony during our wedding where we united a one-of-a-kind Kintsugi bowl. Kintsugi is the Japanese tradition of mending broken pottery with gold. And by this transformation, the repair of what was once broken becomes something special. For us, it was a reminder that through our imperfections, trials, and tribulations, our love will persevere — a love that resembles nothing but itself.”

With most other elements giving sleek minimalism, Levant Lane went above and beyond incorporating color and texture into Vedeline + Kalvin’s wedding with florals, as you can see in this gold and baby blue bridal bouquet filled with different varieties of blooms.

We adore a mismatched bridesmaid palette! Such a great way to let the personality of each member of the bridal party shine through.

An Emotional First Look

Our Favorite Memory From The Wedding There were many memorable moments, but the one that tops it all was during our first look. What do you do when the person you are so nervous to see and the person who would comfort you are all one and the same? It was like that for the both of us. We couldn't wait to see each other. It was nerve-racking leading up to the moment and as soon as we saw each other, we laughed and cried...and the feeling you get when you are with your person, happy.

Cue the happy tears!!

The Bright + Airy Reception

Our Advice To Those Planning Now Always take care of you and your partner first and everything else falls into place. It was important for us to check in with each other no matter how small the decisions were. We strived to remain flexible and also embraced the creativity, artistry, and professionalism of our vendors-- we trusted them to know their craft.

Also, a round of applause for Vedeline’s floral detail strapless sweetheart wedding dress!! It reminds us of the Willowby by Watters Cecilia Convertible-Sleeve Corset Lace Wedding Gown from Anthropologie Weddings.
