A Festival-Style Airbnb Wedding in the Mojave Desert

Intimate Festival Style Mojave Desert Wedding

Imagine a small Airbnb compound in the desert, bohemian decor, dried flowers and a small list of 25 guests- this was the perfect recipe for Perscilla + Kevin’s festival-style wedding at the Mojave Desert Eco-Pods. With a shift towards smaller and more intimate events, Airbnb weddings are all the rage. There are so many unique and unforgettable locations, and P + K’s choice was perfect for their minimalist meets desert wedding day. They were able to host their event right before the Covid-19 pandemic put the world on hold, and P shares more with us about how they made everything unique to them:

Every aspect of our wedding had us written all over it, we even had a potato bar for dinner since we both love potatoes! The inspiration for our wedding was to make it feel like a styled shoot/party. I wanted it to be pretty but minimalistic since the desert has enough beauty. We wanted it to be completely centered around being outside and although it was windy it worked out perfectly! The party aspect came pretty easily since all of our friends and family are a good time, it helped that we had glow sticks, good music, a bonfire and plenty of alcohol.

Desert Views

P + K’s day was all about spending time with their closest loved ones. Because they held their wedding at an intimate Airbnb venue, they were even able to bring their pets in on the fun!

bridesmaids
P shares how they decided to have a micro wedding instead of a bigger affair:

I’ve always wanted an outdoor elopement with just about 5 guest, while Kevin wanted one big party with everyone he has ever come in contact with. What we ended up with was an absolute dream, we had an intimate wedding of 25 people out in the desert on leap day. We planned our wedding very spontaneously, we chose our leap day date while glancing at a calendar and realizing 2020 is leap year, wouldn’t it be cool to have a leap day wedding?! We chose our venue by logging into Airbnb and looking at the coolest listing within a driving distance available on our date.

Boho Bride

Tejana Rashelle Florals designed P’s bridal bouquet, and we love the muted desert hues and dried flowers that really fit with the vibe of the day.

Daughters of Simone Dress
Are you loving P’s Daughters of Simone dress as much as we are?? That train, the fit, the detail… total boho perfection. She paired her gown with Dolce Vita shoes. She shares more:

I worked at a bridal store for 2.5 years as a stylist and always knew I would struggle to find “the one”! Once I got engaged me and my dad took an LA trip and went to a bunch of bridal stores. It was super fun and I found so many I liked, but nothing I felt was “the one”. Then, about a week later, I got a FB marketplace alert that a bridal store in Laguna was having a huge moving sale. I went alone one afternoon and came home with my dress!! There was only one dressing room and one mirror. I never ended up really being able to see my dress on in the mirror, I just took a photo of it on, twirled around in it a bit and then ended up leaving with it in my hand that day!

P wasn’t the only one sporting major wedding day style. K looked handsome in velvet Macys attire and Nordstrom shoes. P’s statement earrings are from Clay Collective Co.

Minimalist Ceremony

P shared that they thifted most of their wedding day decor. This is major inspo for all the DIY darlings out there. In fact, if you’re looking for other ceremony ideas, check out this list of Ceremony Backdrops You Could Totally DIY!

Our Favorite Memory From The Wedding

Kevin's vows were pretty amazing and words I will cherish forever. He is usually pretty quiet in front of a lot of people (another reason for a smaller wedding) and I sprung the idea on him just a few weeks before our wedding that I wanted us to both write a few sentences to go along with the traditional vows. The day before our wedding he still hadn't written them and I knew he was going to put it off until the last minute. They ended up being better than I ever imagined. He not only made me cry but everyone in the crowd and even managed to throw in a "The Office" TV show reference.

Our Advice To Those Planning Now

Knowing that you don't have to do all the things people expect for a wedding if they don't speak to you. For instance, we knew that save the dates and printed invitations are typical but we didn't see the point for our wedding and it ended up saving us a ton of money on something we didn't really care about. Just because somethings traditional doesn't mean you have to do it.
