A Quiet-Luxury Editorial Shoot at the Litchfield Inn, Where the Florals Steal Everything

Couple laughing beneath a lush burgundy-velvet-draped floral arch of pampas, dark sunflowers, and coneflowers at the Litchfield Inn

Quiet luxury has spent the last few years getting quieter, and beiger, until it mostly meant oatmeal linen and a lot of restraint. This editorial at the Litchfield Inn in Connecticut takes the phrase back. The tailoring stays clean and the paper stays impeccable, and then the florals come off the columns and run all the way down to the grass.

The brief, in the team’s words: “quiet luxury, reimagined for the countryside.” Sarah Brehant Events designed and planned it at the historic Litchfield InnCassidy O Photos shot it, and Ephemirus Floral Design did the flowers. Budget most of your scrolling time for those stunning florals!

Quiet luxury wedding stationery flat lay with olive green cards, chartreuse marbled envelopes, and amber acrylic monogram

The palette shows up first in the paper. Olive cards, chartreuse envelopes lined in dusty-pink marble, amber acrylic initials, and a tiny leopard-print matchbox for good measure, all from Holly Winnie Design Co. with calligraphy by Kates Calligraphy. Ask planners what they’re building for 2027 weddings and half will describe something quiet and earthy while the other half say chartreuse. This suite puts both on the same envelope.

The Ceremony Florals

Ceremony aisle with pale blue squiggle-back chairs beneath a clear tent and burgundy velvet backdrop with two wild floral columns

The ceremony sits under a clear-roofed tent from Greenwich Tent Co., rain beading overhead, facing a wall of gathered burgundy velvet parted like a stage curtain (draping by Shindig Lighting). Ephemirus built two towering columns of smoky cotinus, chartreuse foliage, dark-centered sunflowers and pink coneflowers, and let them sprawl to the ground instead of stopping at a polite waist height. Then there are the chairs, pale blue with squiggle backs, which keep all that velvet from tipping into opera.

Up close, the columns get stranger: dense fern, coiled palm fronds, dusty-pink plumes bursting off the top. If loose, slightly overgrown florals are your thing, this chartreuse-and-magenta garden wedding takes the same instinct somewhere even brighter.

The Looks

Black-and-white photo of the couple kissing under the floral arch with the clear tent roof and rain-soaked trees above

Against all that color, the bride keeps it clean: a fitted strapless gown in textured woven lace, and a frayed lace choker that stops it from going precious. The gowns are from Newhite Bridal and Everthine Bridal. Hair is by Beauty by Mineko, and makeup by LaToya Santos Beauty.

The groom wears a black tuxedo with a pleated bib front and a velvet bow tie a size bigger than you’d expect. Classic, with one thing turned up.

The Setting

Aerial view of the white Litchfield Inn on wooded acreage with a clear-roofed wedding tent on the lawn

From above it’s pure New England: a long white inn on ten and a half acres backing onto conservation land, a clear tent on the lawn, and forest in every direction. A venue this classic can carry almost any amount of color, and this team tested the theory.

The Reception

Wide aerial view of the reception tent with long banquet tables, a round table, rattan pendants, and green velvet lounge chairs

Inside the tent, rattan pendants trimmed in red-orange fringe hang over block-print tablecloths and black chairs on chartreuse cushions. The collected, sustainable tablescape came from Honest Event Rentals, with extra pieces from Party Rental Ltd. Almost nothing matches, and it still holds together, because every pattern pulls from the same few colors as the invitation suite. Borrow that if you love a collected room more than a matched one.

There are eggplants in the garland! Real, glossy aubergines tucked between feathery foliage and dried seed heads. Produce in the florals has been building for a while (here’s the case for putting fruit on your wedding tables), and it’s best in small doses like this: one or two things a guest discovers mid-conversation, not a farmers’ market.

The seating chart is very proper: two panels, tidy rows of names and table numbers, and a gold running cheetah across the top of each. Same wink as the leopard matchbox. If yours is still living in a spreadsheet, these seating chart ideas will get it out.

On a near-black table every bloom reads louder. If you’re choosing linens before flowers, go darker than you think.

The Bar

Rattan-fronted bar with arched book-display shelving and a cascading installation of green bananas, Spanish moss, and dried botanicals

The bar is where the design stops being polite. Rattan counter, arched shelves of coffee-table books, and then an installation of green bananas, Spanish moss and dried sunflower heads pouring down a column and across the floor. Yes, bananas. It shouldn’t work, and it absolutely does.

Lady's slipper orchids and orange spray orchids in a Spanish-moss nest beside an artichoke and eggplant on a dark bar surface

The smallest moment in the whole shoot might be the best one: lady’s slipper orchids in a nest of gray moss, next to an artichoke and an eggplant, lit by a few votives.

Quiet luxury was supposed to be about confidence, not a color chart. Keep the polish, the good paper and the classic tux, then let the flowers do whatever they want. And if you need one more push toward color, this color-loving maximalist’s barn wedding should do it.

Congrats to the entire team that made this chic + colorful shoot happen!
