We love to see a set of high school sweethearts tie the knot!
Shelby + Alex first crossed paths, back in the day, in orchestra class. Facebook friend requests were sent. There was a romantic first date at a local boba tea spot. And from there a lifelong love story began!
When planning their Austin, TX wedding at chic hill country venue Prospect House, Shelby + Alex combined forces with planners + event designers from LBV Design House to create a modern + bright citrus-tone dream of an event. “Our biggest inspiration was color,” says the couple. “We wanted our wedding to resemble our relationship: fun, vibrant, and intimate.”
For Shelby + Alex, wedding prep was full of ambitious DIY projects and quality time. “We spent hours together crafting pieces for the day, from hand-dyed fabrics for a stunning installation to pottery napkin rings stamped with a design we created,” the newlyweds say.
Ruét Photo captured the essence of Shelby + Alex’s wedding day perfectly. Every photo is full of joy, creativity, and color. “Our wedding was a labor of love, but in the end the wedding resembled ‘us,’” Shelby + Alex reflect, “through the very smallest detail.”

Bride Shelby created the day’s brilliant custom wedding invites + paper goods using templates from Tiny Blue Press.

We are absolutely obsessed with the way that Shelby’s Sarah Seven wedding gown from Lovely Bride Houston completely reinvented + elevated the classic, romantic, off-the-shoulder puff sleeve bridal look.

Flowers by Lovelily, packed with sunny pink + citrus-colored blooms, set the tone for the celebration’s springy color world including these simple + stunning bridesmaid dresses.

The “First” Look

Wedding day style wasn’t a secret for these two long-time lovebirds. “Finding the perfect wedding day attire took time but was an incredible part of our wedding journey,” says the couple of their wedding dress- and suit-shopping experience. “We both went shopping with each other for our outfits. We had already been together for 9 years at the time of our wedding so we were excited to experience that together.”

“Prior to even having a wedding date, we visited a bridal shop together, along with Shelby’s parents and a future bridesmaid,” remember Shelby + Alex. “Although we didn’t end up choosing a dress that day, putting on the first dress that seemed like it might be the one was when it really started to feel real – there were even some tears. It’s such a special moment.”
A Sunny Ceremony

We love the way this minimalist wedding welcome sign balanced the lush color + texture of the tropical floral arrangements.

We’ve gotta say: so many unforgettable wedding days come out of Austin, Texas. Like this eclectic Austin garden wedding and this wild-yet-minimalist Austin wedding! So funky + creative!

A Bright + Beautiful Reception

What’s better than rocking bridesmaid look in a fresh, springtime yellow-green? Pairing it with a super-cute matching green heart-shaped purse!!
We love a good bridal party purse moment. Like this romantic Charleston wedding that featured purses instead of bridesmaid bouquets!

Our Advice
-There are no rules! Do what you want and what you know makes you and your partner happy.
-This day is first and foremost about you and your partner. Take things at your own pace. And if you can make time for a moment of just the two of you, don't pass it up - I highly recommend it.
-Play your favorite songs!
-Iterate and refine - Many design boards and decks were made to bring our thoughts together throughout the process.
-Communication is key! Align on what you and your partner want out of the day AND what you want out of the planning process.
-Meeting with bridesmaids over video chat and keeping in touch with family kept everyone really excited while we took about a year to plan.
-Let others celebrate you and this new milestone! Stepping back to allow this can be easier said than done during a time where you're busy making a lot of decisions.

We’re obsessed with the life + opulence that fresh fruit adds to a floral arrangements like Shelby + Alex’s. And like the flowers in this romantic + modern wedding editorial!

“We wanted to have great, flavorful food and time to enjoy it,” say Shelby + Alex of why they made sure their day’s timeline included a chance to savor their wedding day feast from La Pera Catering. “It’s just not the same the next day.”

WOW, how cool is this gradient, minimalist, single-bloom floral wall!! Love this idea!

“Alex was unsure about going no-tie and ordered at least five different ties before the wedding,” says the couple of this donw-to-the-wire attire choice. “Even on the wedding day, the groom and groomsmen had ties just in case they wanted to wear them. Comically, the final call to go no-tie was actually made just hours before the wedding by unanimous vote from the florist and wedding planner.”

“The team brainstormed the unique hanging installation concept (the star of the show!), which was brought to life by the hanging fringe pieces that the bride and groom hand dyed themselves,” recalls Valerie from LBV Design House.

“We wanted to have 90% of our wedding work done one month out at least,” Shelby + Alex say. “We had even bigger plans for the string installation and, for sanity’s sake, we needed to pivot unless we wanted to spend all hours outside of our day jobs leading up to the wedding working on it – and we’re so thankful to our vendor team for helping us navigate that!”

Furniture rentals from Yellow Rose Collective and specialty rentals from Loot Rentals established the room’s airy + contemporary vibe.

Decor from Table Manners and linens from Premiere Events created a reception tablescape that felt both playfully colorful and artfully modern.

The delicious single-tier wedding cake from Comadre Panaderia was bursting with bright yellow florals.

Congratulations, Shelby + Alex, on your amazing Austin, TX wedding day! We loved every detail of your contemporary, color-filled celebration! So happy for you both!
