“If I had to select just one phrase to encapsulate Thuyen + Johnny P’s wedding, ‘an enchanted odyssey’ would be the perfect fit,” says photographer Thien Tong of this breathtaking, immersive, Alice In Wonderland-inspired celebration that came together so beautifully at InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort in Vietnam.
We are beyond captivated by this butterfly-filled day of wonders because we’re so in love with the way the bride + groom balanced dazzling their guests with celebrating their 11-year-long love story. “We wanted it to be a whimsical fairytale” say Thuyen + Johnny P, “because that’s how we felt our journey was.”
InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort is one of the most luxurious resorts in Vietnam, and the wedding day made the most of the seamless + enchanting way that the venue blends elegant Indochine style with French architecture. And planners + event designers from The Sisters Planner filled the resort’s many event spaces with unforgettable experiences: a dreamlike outdoor ceremony, a grand + twinkly reception, a playful scavenger hunt, and glamorous red carpet, to name a few.
“More than anything,” the couple says, “we all had a good time, especially since it was an international wedding. It’s a memory that will last a lifetime.”

A chic pair of sunglasses can make SUCH a fantastic bridesmaid gift—something your besties can wear + use long after your wedding weekend wraps up.

How flawless is Thuyen’s glam wedding makeup look by Trieu Lee! Loving that Old Hollywood smoked out eye!

“I probably tried on at least 50 dresses,” Thuyen remembers. “It wasn’t until my aunt suggested a dress I might never have picked that I knew it was the one.”

“I thought I wanted an A-line but ended up with a mermaid style,” says Thuyen of the sparkly, strapless Tokyo gown from Galia Lahav that she paired with wedding heels by Jimmy Choo. “It fit like a glove!”

The First Look

Our Favorite Memory
Groom's favourite moment:
"My favourite part was the first look. What made it truly special was knowing that none of this was supposed to happen. Thuyen and I had originally planned to elope, just the two of us. Yet there we were, standing in The Great Hall of Intercontinental Da Nang, about to see each other for the first time on our wedding day. For the past year, all we had were rough drafts of this moment. As I stood there, heart racing, surrounded by bespoke decorations, it felt like stepping into a perfect dream. When Thuyen appeared, radiant in her wedding dress, time seemed to stand still. Our eyes met, and I felt a rush of emotions – gratitude, joy, and overwhelming love for the incredible woman who chose to spend her life with me."Bride's favourite moment:
"Our venue had a second-story balcony where the bride and groom could make a speech. When we stood there before speaking, we got to observe the entire ballroom from above. Seeing all the beautiful details and our guests enjoying the magical fairytale world we created was surreal. We were able to thank everyone who travelled from afar to be with us, and everyone else who contributed to our journey. Some guests even joked that they expected us to teleport down from the second story, as the night was so epic! Overlooking the balcony and seeing everyone enjoying themselves was beautiful, as 1.5 years of planning came to fruition. It turned out to be more amazing than I ever imagined."

We are so obsessed with the sheer side panels of Thuyen’s Galia Lahav gown! Such a subtly sexy addition to the sparkly silhouette.

We can’t help how much we love a Galia Lahav look, and this enchanting Tahoe wedding, this elegant beach wedding, and this charming California wedding in the woods are proof.

The Ceremony

LA ROSE Wedding Design + Decor created masterpieces out of colorful spring tone flowers for Thuyen + Johnny P’s day. This lush ceremony altar! Total abundance.

“The butterflies were more than mere decorations,” says photographer Thien Tong. “They symbolized the evolution of Thuyen + Johnny P’s love. From their beginnings as individuals to their growth as a couple, their 11-year journey transformed them, much like a metamorphosis from cocoon to butterfly. This magical process culminated in their discovery of true love and the promise of lifelong commitment.”

We love when a couple goes for paper + bamboo fans as wedding guest favors. Such a practical + considerate pick, especially if you’ve planned an outdoor ceremony in a warmer climate.

Thuyen + Johnny P’s celebration was an international affair which meant that some guests traveled a great distance to be with them. “For anyone considering a destination wedding, don’t stress too much about guests who cannot attend,” the couple says. “Whoever is meant to be there will be there.”

Can we get a round of applause for this iconic dip/kiss moment!? The romance of it all! 😍

The Reception

“The reception dinner took place in the renowned White Hall, a venue famous across Vietnam for its grandeur and luxury,” says photographer Thien Tong.

These ethereal, glowing golden fringe + floral fixtures take wedding reception hanging installations to a whole new level.

Our Advice
"Believe in your vendors. Research and choose vendors you trust. Once it’s your wedding day, relax and leave everything to them. If you picked the right team, they’ll deliver. Any tiny mistakes they might make will probably go unnoticed by anyone but you. Your job during the wedding is to enjoy it, be present with your guests – you won’t regret it!" (Wedding tip: If your wedding is in Vietnam, hire Hoa from The Sisters!)

“We incorporated a scavenger hunt during the wedding to get from the ceremony to the red carpet,” remember Thuyen + Johnny P of the creative ways they had their guests navigate the day’s timeline + locations. “The scavenger hunt was inspired by our family camp activities we hold every year. The glamour and red carpet reflected how we wanted our guests to feel like stars.”

When guests arrived at the ‘ring the bell’ champagne bar, they recieved a clue that led them to their seat assignment. Then they passed through an infinity room LED installation, finally arriving at the reception.

“My second dress embodied our red carpet gala theme–” says paparazzi-flanked bride Thuyen of her reception dress “–a show-stopper with a flower cape.“

“With my two dresses, I felt I got to have it all – classic, sexy, and elegant.”

We can’t describe it, but there’s just something so delightful about a simple white wedding cake covered in fresh flowers.
