Ombre – oh how we love you! For those not familiar with the word, ombre is french for shaded – or maybe you thought ombre was a cowboy as my husband did until we were watching Project Runway a few weeks ago and he was so confused why a dress was called ombre and he didn’t see a cowboy. Pretty funny! Anyways, this has been a pretty big trend this summer and I’m predicting it will be even bigger this Fall. So many ways you could incorporate ombre into your wedding day! Some of my favorites…
photos from: simply photo, Lela Rose skirt, necklace, Martha Stewart, ombre napkin, macaroon photo by Mark Brooke, ombre cake, feathers, pink ombre cake, ombre nails, pink bridesmaids dresses, pale pink ombre wedding dress
If you love the idea of pink ombre, maybe your bridesmaids in pink ombre is the way to go! You could have them in this pink ombre dress from Dessy or have them each wear a different shade of pink like these bridesmaids (photographed by Jill Thomas) to create an ombre effect. :)
Ombre can be in any color you wish and love pairing these bridesmaids dresses with cakes! :) Lavender ombre dress from ModCloth and lavender ombre cake by Whipped Bakeshop.
Pretty yellow ombre skirt from Anthropologie and cake by Brew-Ha Ha photographed by Ashleigh Jayne.
Stunning wedding dress by Versace via Fashionbride and gorgeous cake by Maggie Austin.
So, what do you guys think? Anyone planning on incorporating ombre into their wedding day? I’d love to hear how!
Jen! :) I’m actually amused. This is pretty much how my color scheme is with shades ranging from white, coral red, carnation pink, orange & yellow! :) I will be having that particular flower centerpiece too as well as macarons de Paris in different shades :) Part of the stresses of pulling off an artsy wedding is that the majority of our guests only seem to know about classic weddings. This post gave me enough encouragement to push through with my colorful motif despite everyone’s opinions about an anti-classic wedding :) Thanks for posting! :)
Great ombre round up. I love that pink ombre cake with all the swirls. So playful and delicious looking.
These images are stunning. What a great way to incorporate this trend into weddings right now. I love the table scape with the flowers.
LOVE!!! Love the bridesmaid dresses. Love that pale pink wedding dress – looks so chic but so comfy! Gorgeous, inspiring post. :)
Adorable. I mean, your husband realizes “hombre” doesn’t mean cowboy EITHER, right? :)
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this trend. The wedding photographed by Jill Thomas – stunning! And the Versace dress? WOW! Great selection! As much as I love the ombre look, I think the example of bridemaids in different shades of the same color is my favorite look. Maybe something in blues?? :)
I love it too! I’ve been obsessed with some of those images on pinterest for a while and even wish I was a brunette for a while to try ombre hair, ala Rachel Bilson. It just doesn’t work on blonds :)
Great roundup!
Love ombre things and obviously this post!
I love the ombre trend and these examples are perfection.
Love it! My new pieces coming out soon are Ombre inspired :-)
Meeeeeeeee, I just posted about ombre in my blog!!!!
OMG! These are so cool! Will share this on my FB page :) Oh love it!
I am indeed planning to incorporate Ombre in my wedding!
I’m planning to have a rainbow wedding (like the fabulous ones you have featured on your blog,) so I’m going to be hand-dyeing bridesmaids dresses using this tutorial: http://www.ritdye.com/dyeing-techniques/ombr%C3%A9-dyeing
and these dresses: http://www.etsy.com/listing/72005989/lovely-white-cotton-coconut-shell-beach. Hopefully they turn out as gorgeous as these images you’ve shared :)
I just died! Like I said I would last month!
I want to eat everything!!! OMG NOM NOM NOM!
love how you paired the dresses with the cakes!
OHHHHH my god…thank GOD for Ombre!
and the answer is YES! I dream of a tea-stained vintage lace dress, gradually tinting to a dark ivory and then a teal ombre cake..it’s not too early to plan my 10th anniversary is it? only 6.5 years away… ::sigh::

So glad you guys are all loving this post as much as I do! :)
Tippy- I think your wedding sounds beautiful! Best of luck :)
Hillary- Ha! Yes, he knows that – just kept thinking of Joey and the Hombre Man! :)
Courtney- I think blues would look so pretty!
Chandra – So in love with Rachel’s hair! But yeah, thinking it is much easier for brunettes to pull off than blondes
Jennifer- Can’t wait to see your new collection! YAY!
Coleen – That sounds so amazing! I hope you’ll share some photos with us after. :)
Hilljo- I know! I’ve had this idea since May, so I’m excited to finally get it up! Glad you love it!! :)
LOVE THIS!!! I am in love with the ombre trends just in general… and as soon as I saw Lauren Conrad sporting it I went out & got my own hair done ombre. But I love it on other stuff too! It’s such a neat detail and is so fun!!! :)
i found your post while flipping through flipboard on my ipad this morning. LOVED it and all things ombre. you inspired my post today :)
Where can I find that pale pink wedding dress? I can’t seem to locate it via the link. It’s lovely!
It’s by an Australian designer, Lisa Brown – http://lisa-brown.com.au
I love this post!! I’m totally all over ombre lately and that Versace dress is to. die. for. Love!!
oh my goodness!!! can’t believe a picture from our wedding got onto your site! one of my absolute faves. I’m dying right now! thanks to my amazingly stylish bridesmaids :)
The picture with the bride and her 6 bridesmaids, her wedding gown is incredible. Please if you can tell me where she got it?!
The photo of the back of the girl (picture to the right of the photo of the clutch, light pink dress)… who makes that dress?!!! Stunning!
BMW – My mom is an independent fashion designer – she designed and made my dress!
Fabulous! The colors are beautiful and the ombre shading is one of my favorites. Loving the bridesmaids dress.
Yes, yes, yes!! I love ombre, I have been in love with it for as long as I remember it breaking onto the scene. I’m incorporating it in some fabric strip backdrops for the alter and the chair backs and the entrances. I’m trying to ombre my wedding dress, but it’s been hell trying to convince any shop to potentially ruin your wedding gown! Our invitations also have some ombre hints. Any other suggestions?! I will ombre it!!
Whoops! That last comment was mine!!
favorite post tis far! i love ombre and I love green wedding shoes!!! Since my sister is getting married soon I have pointed her in this direction. : )
ombre – dark to light… vice versa :)

Love this post but yes, please give more info on the pale pink ombre dress! Beentrying to google more info about it bt cantfind anything!
Well Liz that is an absolute incredible gown. :)
I’m getting married in April and doing a pink & purple ombre-themed wedding. That purple cake you feature was one of my inspirations. I plan to carry it through in my floral arrangements and other decor elements as well.
I LOVe the ombre trend! If you are looking for the ombre in weddings, you MUST check out designer Tara LaTour. She does the most beautiful ombre wedding gowns.
her website http://www.taralatour.com
Her gowns are so romantic and modern! You have to check it out! She is the hottest new designer in the market.
Okay, I’m dumb too, because I totally though Ombre was a cowboy too, and when I started seeing all these skirts with the graduated colors called “ombre” I thought it must be the name of the skirt- and that it was some sort of Spanish style. LOL I feel dorky now. I was wondering why they were calling the cakes ombre too. LOL I think this is one of my most favorite posts in a LONG LONG time!!! :D
I was hoping to find the pale pink wedding dress shown above, but the link doesn’t work. Any ideas? Thanks.
Looking for that dress too! Everywhere I see that dress online it brings me to the floraandfauna site which doesn’t actually have the dress on it :( If anybody finds anything like it please help a girl out!
Just divine! Beautiful collection
I know a lot of you love that pale ombre dress (the one seen from the back only), well thanks to GWS reader Olive, I now know who the designer is! It’s by an Australian designer, Lisa Brown – http://lisa-brown.com.au
Those pink “bridesmaid dresses” are actually New York City Ballet’s costumes for waltz of the flowers in the Nutcracker.
Love this colour scheme, looks fantastic. The cakes are stunning.
